Consise/Basics

Name: Zeri'us
Nickname: Zeri
Pre-impression Name: Ozerius

Position: Rider
Past Ranks: Holdbrat, runaway, candidate

Gender: Male
Sexuality*: Pan

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Fairly tall, Zeri'us adult height is 6'2". He'll be fairly well-built, with natural muscle built up by exercise and training. His skin is fair, but with a tendency to tan before it burns. His hair is deep, glossy black, and he prefers to let it grow out whenever possible, and tie it back in a ponytail. It does tend to get a touch shaggy, before he does something about it. His eyes are warm amber, and his full lips are usually smiling. His features are somewhat square, and he has an aqualine nose. Whenever possible, he tends to wear shades of blue and black.

Personality

Unique Qualities: Casual arrogance, brave, headstrong, leisurely, promiscuous.

Likes: Drinking, girls, boys, sex, partying, relaxing
Dislikes: Having to do things he doesn't want to do, when draconath nags too much, when Draconath calls him a wherry.

Strengths: usually willing to give people a chance, social, friendly, supportive, brave.
Weaknesses: casual arrogance, not responsible, fonder of relaxing then working, hot-headed, reckless, and prone to dickish behavior in general.

Zeri'us was the black-sheep for his haughty, proud family. The boy was always more friendly then dignified, more concerned with having fun then appearances, too fond of mischief and trouble to bring honor to the family name. His dreams of being a harper or riding a dragon were too flighty, his fondness for the male form as much as the female form was downright shameful. His youth was full of rebellion, until he finally left for himself at the age of 15.

Zeri'us is social— he likes having a group of friends around him, and though the concept of family is troublesome to him because of the one he was unfortunately born with, he'll become comfortable with the concept eventually, and want one of those too. He's incredibly loyal, almost to a fault— he'll think nothing of risking his skin for a friend, or leaping before thinking in order to protect a friend's honor. He's protective, which can also have a bad side— it begets possessiveness and jealousy, though these he will try to keep to himself, and brood over.

Brooding, however, is unusual for him: he'd much rather focus on the good things in life then stew over emotions. He loves parties and drinking, and he loves social activities that put him into romantic and platonic situations alike. He's relatively charismatic, and tends to draw a lot of attention, as much for his antics. He doesn't mind getting a little dirty to have some fun— in fact, he enjoys it. And we're just not talking sexually either— though he's also a very sexual beast, and until he finds someone to settle down with, he'll probably jump from bed to bed with relish and little mind for the consequences. In fact, consequences in general seems a rather tentative concept for this man- oh, he knows they'll happen, and if it comes down to it, he'll deal with them— but he'd rather not have to. He'll find ways of making mischief and not getting caught, or nicking food, or sneaking around where he's not supposed to be, without getting caught. It becomes a thrilling game for him, especially because he loves an adrenaline rush. Especially if there's anything to it that might benefit his friends, he'll do risky or even downright dangerous things. "it seemed like a good idea at the time" is all the justification he needs. The rules are really more like guidelines, after all, and he'll bend them and enjoy it.

Needless to say, responsibility is not this man's strong suit. He lives life to have fun, and he lives it for the moment. He can be pushy, when trying to get what he wants, and will tease people he doesn't like— he can be a downright bully, if the right situation comes up. However, to his friends he'll seem incapable of cruelty, which is generally how he functions. He's sweet and affectionate, generous to those he cares about, and really fond of a cuddle.

It's hard to get him down or convince him that he ought not to do something: he's as stubborn as a mule, and twice as resilient. The other side to this is that he's hard to keep down and roll over, too: he's not about to get crushed, either. Even in the depths of a deep depression, he will hold on with some kind of energy no one thought he had, which could be labeled an obsession to survive, and to thrive.

He is very stoic, and can take a lot of unpleasant things if he has to— though really, he'd rather not. He's also very brave. When it comes down to it, Zeri'us can be a serious and responsible guy. He'd rather not, it's true, and he won't without the right incentive. Duty or any of that is not enough to convince him. A threat to his home, however, or his people? That will get him going every time.

History

Zeri'us was born Ozerius to a family which was old, proud, and strong-minded. They were holders, and had been holders for a long time, and were set in their ways and proud of it. They didn't much approve of dragonriders- oh, they tithed, of course, because you had to and that was tradition. But, outside of that, they viewed the dragonriders as immoral and out of control, wild people, who had no place in their civilized societies. Harpers weren't that much better. Zeri's father was an old guardsman and he was proud of who and what he was, and didn't feel there was anything else for his son to be but a member of the guard, as he had been.

Zeri was not an only child, but he was the eldest, and thus he had much of his parents attention from a young age. The problem was, he didn't want it. He didn't want to inherit their estate, and he certainly didn't want to join the guard. He'd been fascinated by his harper teachers, and their stories of dragonriders— that's what he wanted to be. A harper, or even better, a rider.

Unfortunately, that didn't sit too well with his father. In his youth, his father would respond harshly and punish him, but he didn't take it too seriously when the young boy spoke up about wanting to become either of those things; surely, it was something he would grow out of. His father only started to grow worried when the boy hit 12 and didn't join the guard. They started getting into disagreements, which soon grew into full-out rows.

Eventually, Zeri left. He was simply done with it, and he wasn't going to take it anymore. He ran off, and made his way to the weyr- if his parents wouldn't have him, then he would go somewhere he could do what he wanted. He intended to stay there for a short time, and recoup— see if the harpers would take him, despite the fact that he was 15.

The weyr closest to him was Nashira, and so he went there. He ended up staying longer then he'd intended, growing comfortable. He signed up to be a candidate as soon as they expressed the fact that they would have him, and began standing for clutches.

He was not immediately met with success. It wasn't until he was 17 that a dragonet hatched for him: a brown, who wandered up to him after having slashed the heels of three boys before him, and glowered. The brown's first words to him were Oh, come off it- stop looking so smug and feed me. My name is Draconath., and that pretty much set the tone for their relationship.

Weyrlinghood was a slow process, but for all his whims towards mischief and relaxing, Zeri'us managed to survive it and graduate on time. Since then, it's been a matter of getting used to being adult riders.

Dragon

Draconath
Brown M Dragon
Drac is actually pretty small for a brown— he's still well within the scale of what's average, he's just at the low end of it. To his great shame, he's lightly built- he lacks the stamina and the size of his brown brothers. His features are blunt, though, and he gives the impression that he should be a more bulky dragon then he is. His base tone is an even chocolate brown. Creamy markings claim his underbelly, starting at the crest of his chest and going all the way down the middle of his tail before fading off. Markings of the same cream also dominate most of his head, covering his skull and headnobs and trailing down in a V-shape halfway down the front of his neck. The base reappears to claim the top of his muzzle, just about to the eyes. On top of all of this are stripes of a lighter cream, running down his back, across the fronts of his limbs, and the tips of his wings. The deeper cream covers his toes and the very tips of his wing-spars.
