Consise/Basics

Name: Ye'go
Nickname:

Position: Rider
Past Ranks: Holdbrat, Tannercraft apprentice, miscreant, Candidate, Weyrling

Gender: Male
Sexuality*: Pan

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Ye'go is a relatively tall man. He is about 6' tall, and swears by Faranth's tail that he used to be taller, when he was young and spry. This may not actually be true, but that doesn't stop him from claiming him. His belly now has some extra paunch, thanks to his fondness for fine wine and good food. Don't let that fool you— what used to be bulky muscle is now wiry, if covered with a layer of flab. He's still fit, and surprisingly agile for one his age. Quick movements have always been his specialty. His eyes are even brown. In his youth, his hair was bright tawny brown- now it is purely white, and he keeps it about chin-length, and pulled back into a spiky brush-tail Spiky because that's what short hair does when you pull it back, not being long enough to hang- not anything unnatural.. His face is lined with his age, and he is clean-shaven. His features are square, with a too-large nose and long lips usually creased into a friendly smile.

Ye'go prefers light-colored clothing, of fairly light materials. He does not feel the cold as some do, and only wears riding jackets because the higher in the air you are, the more chilly it is. He's perfectly comfortable in summer clothes, even when it's 40 degrees outside. He tends to wear an old, worn pair of boots everywhere, and a special belt whose significance he will rarely explain, which has several extra notches in the center, where they're useless for actually fastening. If anyone asks, he says it's a measure of how thin he used to be, but that's a flat lie. Ye'go's left ears is pierced, though he usually wears nothing more then a stud in it.

Personality

Ye'go is not a nice person.

Oh, he's friendly enough, but loyalty to Ye'go is a tenuous concept. He has seen much, in 63 years of life, and not all of it has been pleasant. One doesn't survive so long without learning a thing or two, gaining a scar on the metaphorical back, or fifty. Ye'go is someone who not only survives, but thrives, in hairy situations.

He has seen the harshness of the world, he has smiled, and he has smiled. He is a strong man, with tenacious will. Somewhat surprising is his discipline- he keeps himself fit and strong, and takes an almost religious approach to maintaining himself for survival. In his mind, he needs to be ready for anything- and he is. He's monk-like in his training, and even in his outlook. He believes everything happens for a reason, and he loosely believes in the concept of fate— but he every-inch believes in the idea of guiding your own fate by taking an active interest in the direction your affairs are heading.

And with that thought, Ye'go has turned his mind to thriving. He is a profiteer. Chaos and entropy are two things that give him strength as they might sap it from others. He excels at dealing with those crisis situations that people dread— specifically, in turning him to suit his whims. The chaos he does best with is that which revolves around unfriendly people and unsavory things. Survival gives him a euphoric thrill, especially when the world is collapsing around him and he can still find in himself not only the will to plow through it, but the ability to make it suit himself best. Those situations don't often crop up in such a situation as Pern, so he makes due with smaller things— the vagrants, the bookies, the sorts of people who skulk in very specific alleys in markets— he knows them by name. He knows their business. He usually stays out of it, except when it suits him.

Ye'go is a mercenary, strait forward. His loyalty is fixed mostly by price. There are some to whom he would be loyal without question, of course: Notegath, primarily. Everyone else is fair game. Theoretically it might be possible to win his loyalty without a bond, even if it's a place involved— but even Fort, which he lived at for years, commands no loyalty to him. Individual people are mild curiosities, good but temporary company, or tools to be used in his schemes. It's best not to have any skills which might be useful to Ye'go- if he thinks you're useful, he's going to try to use you somehow.

Ye'go's very good at people, too. He has an almost intuitive knowledge about human nature and is very good at figuring out what motivates people— what makes people tick, and even more, what they're willing to work for. What they want. He's emotionally aware, and he twists it to his uses. He's somewhat charismatic, and he uses that to good effect. He's very manipulative- why not be? It's easier.

Ye'go is an ambitious man, but it's not really power he's after. Not.. obvious power, anyway. He never wants to be a figure-head. Ideally, no one should know his name, even when he's pulling the strings, except as friendly old bluerider Ye'go. He's an independent man, and seeks to maintain that: he has never had the will to tie himself to a position of power and fame, and he's not about to start such a trend now, at the ripe old age of 63. Most of what he's going to try to do is behind the scenes. He loves being asked for advice, and if he were to chase power it would be in the form of an advisor— someone with the invisible weight to make the decisions. His aspirations after this are mostly fleeting- he rarely entertains them frequently, and would only jump at it if the situation arose. No, his primary ambition is to money: he wants marks. Lots and lots of marks. He wants enough marks to buy all the comfort he can imagine, and still have marks on the side. He who dies with the most toys wins.

Not that you have to be really concerned around Ye'go. For the most part, he's harmless. He's certainly greedy, but it doesn't translate into much for the layperson. The average person Ye'go meets is not useful to him in any way, and even if they are, if his attempts to manipulate them into his service fail, he'll laugh and shrug it off, and not try again. So long as you don't get in his way, there should be no issue. He's not nice, in any moral sense, but he's not really an unfriendly person.

On the contrary, while he makes few true connections with anyone, Ye'go can be pleasant company. He enjoys life. He enjoys a good laugh, he enjoys having a good time, he enjoys being happy. He's likely to share any wealth he has, if only to improve is own reputation and pad his ego a bit. He's genial, and most of the time he's joyful. He seems to be perpetually amused— even when he's insulting someone to their face, he seems good-natured about it: more like teasing then an actual insult, or a buddy complaining about the state of the beer rather then a patron who is angry about it. He'll even help people randomly— of course, that's usually to benefit himself in some way, even if the benefit is not obvious to anyone but himself.

Ye'go is quick-minded and intelligent. He makes connections very fast, and can find the best way out of a situation— even if he's not skilled in, say, diplomacy, enough to pull it off. He's witty, too, and tends towards sarcasm. He's strait-forward and blunt, and doesn't mince his words. He's honest: if he means something, he's going to say it exactly how he means it. That's just how he works. He's not out for manipulation every time he talks to someone— only if they're useful to him in some way, and if they are he's usually not going to show it obviously. The thing is that his loyalties are so obscure, you can't tell if he's being genuine or he's just out to twist someone to his whims.

Ye'go has a strange devotion to the world. He realizes it's harshness, and knows what you have to do to survive. Sometimes it's unsavory. All other times should be spent relaxing. He gets energy from harsh situations, and relaxes when he can. The only people he's going to look out for, though, are himself and his dragon. He is pointed and relentless: a vicious hunter when he turns his mind to something. That something is just usually financial- he's harmless, unless you get in his way, and even if you do, he's likely just to find a way around you.

Likes: Notegath, Marks, Gold marks, fine wine, people
Dislikes: Bad food, Sour wine, Watered down beer, Lectures on morality, and young children. I would say idealism, but that just amuses him.
Strengths: Excellent at surviving crisis situations, gleans energy and strength from crisis situations.
Weakness: Greedy and selfish/
Fears: The loss of Notegath, freezing to death.
Goals: Get rich and die happy.

History

Ye'go doesn't like talking about his history. He finds it irrelevant- he's here now, and that's the important thing. A creature of the moment, Ye'go doesn't like looking back, and resents being asked to.

Ye'go was born in the hold, but found the lifestyle drab and boring. There is no glory in hold living— especially in such a small hold, as what he came from. It wasn't large enough to have a recognized name, and was technically subservient to Fort. Everyone knew each other's names, which wasn't really good for anyone who eventually sought to be a con-man. He was mischievous even from a young age, drew his mother and aunts mad, and received many a beating from his father— none of which deterred him.

He was more then sick of the small-town mentality to burst away from it as soon as he could. He went to the tanner-craft at the age of 10, one of several apprentices. He'd always had a knack for hunting, on those occasions where his father tried to give him a useful outlet for his destructive tendencies.

The crafthall was much larger then his hold of origin, and was plenty enough to keep his mind occupied for turns. There was plenty to do, and see, and learn— all of it interested him. At least, it interested him for a few turns. Old habits died hard, and Ye'go found himself once again irreversibly attracted to mischief. Mild kleptomania and a tendency to be destructive were bad enough on their own, but Ye'go soon found himself drawn to that group in any schooling situation known as those kids. Take the ordinary mischief someone like Ye'go would be prone to, and multiply it by the five members of the group- it was certainly enough to get him noticed by the masters, and for nothing good.

It took 3 years for Ye'go to really get in bad with the masters, and it was a slow progression. Several times, it was only his skill in the craft that kept him with them- he was near the top of his class. Still, things came to a point where they made him an offer: get in line, or get out. He chose to get out, leaving the hall for it's adjascent hold.

This was a temporary action, and once again he found himself lingering in an unhappily stagnant small-town situation. He was beginning to wonder just what he'd do when, about a month after his 14th birthday, the hold was visited on search from Fort Weyr. There was a clutch with a queen egg, and they had come seeking primarily queen candidates— but any they could find for the other eggs was fair game, too, if they were willing to come. Ye'go went out of his way to place himself in the group of children roughly his age who just happened to be lounging in the courtyard that morning, and was in luck: he was amongst those chosen.

His luck didn't hold immediately. The clutch he'd been searched for held no dragonet for him. They didn't kick him out as they expected— rather, Fort Weyr allowed him to stand again. Still no luck, but the third time was a charm: Notegath cracked his shell and stumbled his way to his new rider, creeling anxiously with hunger.

A stranger pair was rare to see: the two were near opposites, but it didn't seem a deterrent. While the weyrlingmaster had his doubts about the pair, they managed to graduate on time and with flying colors, not being amongst those lost to the darkness of between.

It's been 48 long turns of their pair, and still they persevere. Even through the illness, they have managed to survive: They were amongst the first wave who caught it, and it nearly destroyed the pair. One, after all, cannot live without the other: the healers did not have high hopes for them, and expected between to receive them within a week of Ye'go's contracting the illness. Notegath himself never fell victim to the plague, but it wouldn't matter if Ye'go died. Ye'go was too much of a gritty bastard to give into any plague, or so he claims— after brushing death with the tips of his fingers, he ran back to life with mocking quickness. His recovery was almost complete: he's slower now, then he used to be, and he has a residual wheeze that will dog him for the rest of his life. Still, he's alive- that's the important thing.

The healers sent him to Sebeka for it's warm climate, to help with his healing and keep him healthy— one so old, they would worried, might be prone to post-plague infections. Being curious about the weyr, he accepted the offer, and that is where he is now.

Notegath
Blue M Dragon
While Notegath is slightly on the large end for a blue, he's decidedly average. His frame is muscled and somewhat blocky, but still strangely elegant. Perhaps it's the slight length of his features, the slight dished quality to his face, or his delictate paws and long wings: they balance the blockiness, and give him an impression of both dignity and power- which he is very happy to maintain. His hide is usually smooth and shining, because he's somewhat vain and enjoys looking his best, thus demanding on regular baths, oiling, and preening before he deems himself presentable and wanders into public.

More then his build, his coloration is striking and ethereal. A vibrant medium blue forms his base, but it's hard to see. Around the center of his neck, faee and torso, a darker blue subtly darkens some of his base. starting right where his jaws meet his neck and trailing around the front of his muzzle and down his topline is a lighter shade of dark cyan, which also claims his bulky wing-muscle and the front half of his wing-spars, shading gradually away down his back and tail. A still lighter shade of icy cyan spots on top of this, present at the tip of his muzzle, in a very thin line down the top of his muzzle, on his ridges, at the very top of his wing-spars, where they meet into the wing-hand, and down in a continuing thin layer on his topline, till slightly past his tail.

As if he walked into the night sky and some of it stuck to him, a deep, dark shade of blue- past navy, with slight purply tones— covers his paws and makes a brief appearance on his underbelly, shading very slightly upwards on his chest and neck. It also covers his eyes in a dark patch of shadow, and from these markings grow strange stripes. At times, they look like ordinary stripes you might see on a wild feline or a smaller tabby beast, but other times they seem pushed by some ethereal entropy into strange shapes: Swirls, hooks, mixed casually into jagged lines and stripes of a more natural variety. A hook descends from his eyes, down his muzzle, underneath the darkness around his eyes from which it rose, and sweeps down his neck. These are subtle for their darkness, and it takes a moment of staring to figure them out. Just beneath those, bordering their dark territory, are smatterings of chaotic spot clusters in bright icy blue, which look almost as if they are stars drawn from the sky by these strange hooks old gods have drawn on his body. Anywhere the cyans touch, they linger, and expand slightly out from that territory, but not very far. To finish, fairy-lights of slightly deeper ice blue dot his hide, both along the star-ridge of his topline and amongst the dark hooks.

His wingsails seemed to have escaped this chaos: They are a different tone then his body, a murky purple-blue. They seem to have been perhaps touched by the fairy-lights and star spot-clusters, but cloudy patches of the same wingsail base tone, darker and lighter, have obscured them into invisibility.
