W'es's Xalroth (Mystic Ista)

Blue Xalroth

Xalroth is a striking dragon. The base of his hide seems to be a gunmetal blue, shading down most of the top parts of his body. Starting at about his elbows/hocks, it begins to loose some of it's blue-tone, becoming more stark gunmetal and darker, nearly black by the time it reaches the very tips of his talons. His underbelly seems untouched by this shade, considerably lighter along the underside of his torso and tail, and reaching to shade the inner bits of his upper legs, where they connect to the torso. The light underbelly is present up his neck and underneath his chin, but along his neck it is thin, shading not quite as strongly upwards as it does on his underbelly, where it colors the gunmetal lighter shades halfway across his sides. That shading makes more of an appearance around his face, lightly coloring the gunmetal blue around his jaws and eyes. The very surrounding of his eyes are that lighter blue, fading out very slightly, but not touching his eyeridges.Tones darker then his base taint his ridges, and slither downwards across his body in stripes similar to those seen on a canadian mackerel. They're mostly across his torso, not quite reaching to his elbows, and down his tail. Halway up his neck, they're present, but fade dramatically near the head, where they are only faintly visible on the top-side of his muzzle. The gunmetal base dominates his wings, shading only slightly to the darker gunmetal color near the edges of the sails. In terms of build, Xalroth is lithe and long, like his rider. The most muscular parts of him are his wing muscles, but the rest of him is covered in the same lithe muscle you'd see in a leopard; he's strong, agile, but it's not brute strength so much as agility and the knowledge of how to properly use momentum.

Personality

In a lot of ways, Xalroth is similar to his rider, but differs significantly as well.

Both are generally nice and sweet creatures, who mean well. Xalroth has a similar idealism, though his is most certainly about situations, rather then including an intrinsic element of humanity. Xalroth strives to put things to rights, to fix wrongs everywhere, and to protect things. His idealism is not so grounded and close to home as w'es's; rather, his idealism surrounds all of pern.

Which isn't to say he's dissatisfied with the way things are; this dragon can appreciate the good things in life. He's not constantly bothered by ill-fortune, but he is aware that things could be BETTER, and he seeks to make things that way.

He also has a flair for the dramatic; he likes using big words, he likes prancing, he likes invoking many of the same elements of theatrics that have become second-nature to his rider. Especially around female dragons— he will alternatively be a huge flirt, a huge flatterer, and a huge dramaticiser. His romantic ideals take a separate twist then his rider— he likes to woo, he likes the thrill of the chase. Where W'es dreams of a family, Xalroth dreams of something less then stable, something passionate and thrilling and fiery.

He maintains an interest in children and the youth of the weyr, too; he tends to like candidates and weyrlings, and is more then happy to help out. He likes being a dragon that the candidates can admire— it appeals to his vanity, and he also likes candidates. If the candidates need to wash a dragon for chores, he'll volunteer. Oiling to learn how to oil a dragon? Shards, yes! Any excuse to give the candidates a quick joyride around the weyrbowl? He'll take it! They should get used to riding dragons before they actually impress, is his thinking! Well, that's his excuse, anyway.

He's an excellent searchdragon— he's got the mind for it. Though he doesn't make a big show of his understanding of humanity, and though he's neither as social nor as gentle as his rider is, he does have that sort of intrinsic understanding of what makes a person tick that makes a good search dragon. He enjoys riding search, he enjoys meeting new people, and he does enjoy company— he's well-suited for the job.

In a lot of ways, he acts as a grounding for his rider. Where W'es is idealistic and has his head in the clouds, Xalroth is grounded. He's a very witty, sharply intelligent beast— he'll play devil's advocate, or more often then not, he'll make sarcastic comments and poke holes in some of W'es's more obscure arguments. He's not malicious or detrimental, however— it's more a form of teasing, then anything.

He's more realistic then his rider, more down to earth, and more aware of their duties.

He can also be something of a worry wart, if something bad is happening— and this is where W'es grounds him; W'es will sooth Xalroth when Xalroth starts getting seriously worried about things, preventing him from dwelling on bad happenings.

Xalroth enjoys physical activity— in the sky, he loves showing off his agility— the theatrical side of him, again.
