Consise/Basics

Name: V'rish
Nickname:

Position: Rider, Overseer?
Past Ranks: Rider, Candidate, weyrling, harper
Wing: Stealth

Gender: Male
Sexuality*: Pan

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Eye Color: Hazel.
Hair Color: Black
Build: Tall, Long.

Tall and dignified, V'rish would once possibly conjure the image of a Lord Holder. Of course, that was before, when being a Lord Holder actually meant something. He tends to dress as finely as he can, and keep his hair well groomed. Said hair is black, usually about chin-length, and, if possible, is impeccable. His eyes are bright hazel, and his build is long and lean— like he never quite shook that awkward lanky stage in his childhood. He has this grin on his face which is almost as notable as one of his long features itself that can be slightly unnerving if you're not used to it.

Personality

Likes: Cats, Tari, Fine wine, living comfortably, being in control
Dislikes: Not being in control, most people, having to do things for which he is not suited, people who don't respect him, and ill-trained children and firelizards, which he considers to be the same creature.
Fear: Tarineth will be removed from him; he will loose respect
Quirks: Tends to entertain Tari's more wild whims, Keeps a selections of poisons in stock 'just in case'

There are some people in the world who look dangerous, but aren't. V'rish is not one of those people.

He may not even look terribly dangerous from the front. He carries himself with dignity, and tends to be calm and quiet. There's this strange serenity that sits on his shoulders that can be hard to place; it's the kind of serenity that comes of knowing oneself and having ultimate control over one's own destiny. He looks calm, fairly polite— and generally, that's how he's going to be. Unless you cross him. Then, if you're lucky, he might only break your hand.

Oh, V'rish is going to use whatever he can to his advantage— if breaking your hand is going to get him in trouble, he won't do that. But he may poison you. Not enough to kill you, but enough to make you miserable. He's a vicious man, especially when he gets something in his mind: something he wants to do, or someone he wants to go after. The former will cause issue to anyone who dares to stand in his way, the latter to anyone who annoys him. He will be cruel. There is a secret part of V'rish's self that's secretly sadistic, and he will absolutely not hesitate to pull it out if it would serve him.

That's really only if you cross him. The rest of his time, he's going to watch you, but he isn't really going to fuck with you.

V'rish watches people. The simple fact is that you never know when you're going to want to use something against someone, and you can find a lot out about someone by watching them. Though he feels little particular social urge, he'll often put himself into social situations, watching politely and making some conversation, but the real goal is to figure people out.

V'rish is usually distant, and kind of creepy. He wears a grin that reflects some of his inner smugness, of which there is plenty. It's mild, of itself, but always present ,and always has this tone of I-know-something-you-don't..or-if-I-don't,-I-know-where-to-get-the-information.

V'rish is relatively charismatic. When he wants to be, he can be quite charming. He enjoys having followers. Of course, he's a bit subdued about it. He's not really the kind to go around having massive speeches and putting a movement together. Oh, no. He's much more the type to recruit a spy network— informal or otherwise— to get all the kinds of information he could possibly want. Even gossip is useful, especially because there's never a leash on it.

Generally he keeps to himself, outside of his group of.. associates. His morals, if they exist, are arguable. Oh, he certainly has some kind of honor code.. but whatever it is, he's never bothered making it clear to anyone outside of himself. Why should he? His loyalties are also subject to question. One can never be quiiiite sure what he's supporting.. though he's usually very willing to pull all his actor strings and convince you that he's quite sincere in following you. If it suits him. His primary loyalty, however, is to himself, and to whoever shares the distinction of being his tribe. There are very few such people. If you're trying to offer V'rish incentives, avoid moral arguments. they don't go very far with him.

V'rish IS loyal.. to his people. And that's where the trouble comes in. If he truly considers you one of his internal tribe, you'll know it. You'll see a very different side of him. He'll do anything for you. He'll be affectionate. He'll offer compliments, and he'll mean them. He'll be protective… but he'll also be very, very, very, VERY possessive. What's his is his. He's going to keep it that way.

If V'rish was born to a set of people to whom he felt loyal, he would be a culture hero. He would do anything for them - to protect them and to keep them safe. But, he wasn't. He spent most of his time alone, and that's how it remains. His family, should he ever acquire one, MIGHT, MAYBE be considered his tribe.. but even then, there are no promises.

With regards to his loyalty here at Neora.. Well. It seems, to every appearance, that he's loyal to the Mad Queen. This is largely because the mad queen pays his bills. That said, being as the only person he's really supporting is him, this is really quite a weak distinction. He's as liable to support the rebellions, if it comes with the right incentives.

Language is one of V'rish's strengths. He was raised as a harper. He's a poetic man, who especially appreciates prose and verse. He's not quite as good at compiling those verses himself, but he does consider himself something of a connoisseur; he knows good writing when he sees it.

He himself is great with words, but he prefers to turn them against people. He's a sarcastic, sardonic little venomous bastard. The wittiness kind of comes with the territory. V'rish actually does have pretty good people skills— he's a good barometer of people and he can motivate them when he chooses to. He's a very dynamic man. In some settings, he could be a great hero; in others, a great villain.

It really comes down to what's in it for him. He's out for himself and his dragon. He really has no reason to give a shit for anyone else. He's selfish, and fairly hedonistic. He likes comfortable living, and seeks it out. While he might not seek to cover his quarters in lavish furnishings, that's really only because he's limited to what he can afford and he wants to appear somewhat less then he is. But, only somewhat.

V'rish can be occasionally helpful. He can also very easily harm your cause. He's hard to predict. He's not motivated by ordinary things. As mentioned, the moral argument is usually going to fall short. Usually. That said, he's not 100% predictable. You may get lucky. 99 times the moral argument will fail; today it might succeed. That said, it's better to offer him something besides a moral incentive.. or something in addition to it.

V'rish is not inherently cruel. He will be cruel, if it suits him; the capability is there— but, cruelty does not define him. He doesn't mean people ill. He just also.. doesn't really mean them well, and is perfectly willing to step on their heads to get higher. If he had to pinpoint an alignment, he would be true neutral.

He is a very independent creature. Most of his business is his own, and he likes to keep it that way. When approached, he is neither friendly nor unfriendly. He's generally just polite, and calm. He is fond of cats, wild or otherwise. He's also completely unconcerned with politics, outside of the vague knowledge that someone with political power pays his bills. He could care less who's in charge, and he has no aspirations for rank. He just wants to keep doing his own thing.

History

V'rish was born amongst the harpers, though in his bloodline the occasional searched dragonrider was not terribly uncommon. He had an ordinary childhood, for the most part- he stayed on the fringes, and was an only child on top of that. Much of his time was spent studying, and he was good at it. While a harper, his interest was never music, and he's never spent much time focusing terribly on it. Instead. his interests were language and law. He eventually began training up to be the sort of harper that studies the law and occasionally acts as a lawyer.

At about the age of 18, however, he became disillusioned with his career path. He didn't, frankly, want to be stuck amongst the holders and crafters for the rest of his life. He'd spent all of his childhood hearing about the glory of dragonriding, hearing awestruck stories of his second cousin somewhere who'd managed to impress a brown, and.. really, that was what he wanted for himself. So he left. He made the argument to the weyr that he would be an asset, in that he knew the laws better then most, and his offer of candidacy was eventually accepted.

He ended up impressing Tarineth, and proving his use in the stealth wing.

Dragon

Tarineth
Though she's large for her color, she's still well within the bounds of average. Tarineth's build simply makes her seem larger then life. Her wings are huge, slightly disproportionate to her body, and her entire form is graceful, but wickedly hooked. Her features put one in the mind of a terran hawk.. or perhaps it's the level of what can only be called predatory-ness that hovers over her. Her hide is dark, near black. The only shade that breaks it are her markings, which are fairly extensive, in a shade of cooler, lighter grey.
