Tofera - BlueMist

Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Tofera is, strangely enough, NOT a particularly large or imposing woman. She's of average height and slight frame: despite her tendency towards liking hard work, the fever that stole her eyesight makes her have a tendency not to gain musclemass very quickly. She does have a softness to her: she's got a good-sized bust for a woman of her height, and round hips, and slight pudge on her belly, making her soft and round. Her hair is black, and she keeps it long, wearing it up in a ponytail or in a bun. Her eyes, which were born green, have opaque milky irises, and are never focused, but she walks easily enough with the use of a walking stick she uses to feel out the path in front of her, when she's not around Tofera.

Personality

Tofera is a veritable Force of Nature. Very little gets in her way, especially when she sets her mind in a direction.

She's more stubborn then a mule. This is partially conditioning from her childhood: the only way she got people to stop treating her like an ickle fragile thing was to MAKE HERSELF CLEAR and not let ANYTHING stand in her way, but it's also more ingrained then that: it doesn't occur to her that obstacles are anything more then minor annoyances. If they continue to stay in her way, she'll get more and more frustrated at her inability to deal with them: her usual plan of attack is to bowl right through them. This doesn't always work, and if a job requires finesse, you'd be better served finding someone else.

She makes absolutely no bones about being blunt. It's just what she is. Gingerly pussyfooting around subjects is a waste of time and it doesn't get you anywhere at all. She's also incredibly sarcastic, and witty: if you like that kind of humor, you'll love her company. If you don't, she's probably going to offend you. A lot. She's also fond of the occasional dirty joke, and enjoys drinking and occasionally gambling.

She has no time for idiots or weaklings. She doesn't discount the validity of pain or of weakness, but look, if you can't handle something, don't volunteer for it- that's her perspective. Anyone she deals with regularly should certainly be capable of dealing with her- how else are they going to be able to deal with anything? She's a good delegator and teacher, but only with certain breeds of people- people who can take her bluntness and her fast pace.

She's not completely cruel, however- when in a position of authority, she'll challenge people, but she'll try to do it in a way that makes them come through it themselves and feel proud and enriched. She doesn't discount the use of emotions and such; she just recognizes a need to build a strong foundation, and this is what she attempts to impress on people.

She is, herself, not very emotionally distant. She's perfectly willing to be frank. If she likes you, she likes you, and she wants to be around you and hang out with you. She does like having fun, and has a rich sense of humor, especially if you can stand sarcasm. She really enjoys unwinding after a day of hard work.

And speaking of hard work, she likes doing it. She isn't so much for the mindless dronery, but she does like feeling accomplished. She worked for a time in the minecraft, and her family consists mostly of smiths: her work ethic is unparalleled.

She's incredibly driven and motivated. If she has a will for something, you can rest assured that it will probably happen. She's tenacious and she doesn't give up.

Driven, Motivated, Blunt, Sarcastic, Witty, Biting, Friendlyish, Affectionate in a strange way. no time for idiots, no time for weaklings, frustrated, strong.

History

Tofera was not born blind; she was born normally to a family of smiths. The blindness was the effect of a fever that struck her in her young childhood; it almost killed her, but she escaped with her life, loosing instead her eyesight.

This was a bit of a blow to her, but she got over it: her focus was on survival, and she figured out pretty fast methods around having eyesight. Her parents, however, were deeply stricken to have almost lost their only daughter, and especially with her eyesight gone, they treated her like a fragile little flower.

She hated that. She absolutely HATED that. She found it unnecessary, further so when they blocked her from doing what she wanted to do. She couldn't hang out with friends, because she might get hurt. They scarcely let her out of their sight, which riled her up as an infringement of her privacy and her independence. This brought out teenage rebellion very early: by 12, she was thoroughly frustrated. The final straw was when they barred her from the craft— the smithcraft was no place for a blind girl, they said, she couldn't possibly survive around all of those instruments and things.

Oh, that riled her right up. So she left, she ran off to the minecraft. It took a lot of convincing for THEM to let her in, and they never did make her an official apprentice, but she convinced them of her strength and work ethic, and they let her do some work. They didn't, however, let her be a wherhandler, like she soon figured out she wanted to be.

Well, that would never do. Not one to be told no, she was perfectly sweet and bode her time with minimal grinding of teeth, until the gold queen had laid a clutch, and the minecraft lined up all of their local candidates to go in and try for an egg. She managed to dress like them and sneak a place in line, and go in herself and get an egg.

It was a hard trip, but she managed to come out with one, that soon hatched into a gold wher. She hadn't intended to land the gold, but she certainly wasn't complaining- she Impressed the beast, and Impressed closely.

If not for that last fact, the minecraft might've tried to separate the pair, but strongbonded pairs and golds were too valuable. So instead they allowed her to go through the training, if grudgingly.

She didn't like that whole grudging thing, or the snide way they were treated. As soon as they were done with the training, the pair struck off to the weyrs: hopefully they'd be treated better there.

They haven't looked back since.
