Name: Tha'os
Nickname:
Pre-Impression Name: Thanatos

Position: Weyrling
Past Ranks: Holder, Explorer, Candidate

Gender: Male
Sexuality*: Pansexual

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Thanatos is 6', putting him at the taller end of the midrange spectrum. He is fairly pale-skinned, with dark hair he keeps short for practicality's sake. His eyes are bright green. His features are soft, though not round, with a slight nose and full lips. In build, he is made of lithe muscle- formed more of moving around in nature then actual physical conditioning. He tends to wear greens and neutral colors, and favor clothing better for practical uses.

Personality

First meeting Thanatos will give the impression of a generally well-rounded, polite, and quiet young man. He is all of those things, occasionally in spite of his own experiences.

Calm and oddly serene, Thanatos seems to have tapped into a vein of zen that most other people have missed. Things just don't really seem to get to him. Bad shit happens. He accepts it, and deals with it. He's quietly confident in his ability to do so, and manages to externalize most unpleasant stimuli. There's really only one way to get under his skin.

While he's not incredibly social, he's not unfriendly either. He'll make conversation, be honest and friendly.. he probably won't approach people unless he has business with them, but this is because he's as comfortable as he is with himself as he is with other people- possibly moreso. He enjoys the company of others, and though he will rarely seek it out, often finds himself in small social situations regardless— the sort of guy who kind of attracts a small friend group. While he's not gregarious, he is good conversation and a stable listening ear.

Thanatos is responsible. He does what he needs to, he meets his goals. He's not really leadership material— he could be, if he wanted to, because he's got a stable head on his shoulders, good sense, and can keep his head in a crisis, but he doesn't have that sort of.. charisma that makes a leader, or really, the will to lead. He prefers working on his own, and ideally would be an independent agent. He's not really the sort to ask questions about his work, either— his work is Work, he does it when he's supposed to be working, and he does it because it's how he earns his living. Fighting thread is dangerous stuff, drilling is necessary, whatever his weyrleader asks him to do he does. This isn't because he doesn't think for himself- it's just not his business. He is simply the tool, or a piece of a tool, with which an action is carried out. The only time he'll refuse a job is when it actually clashes with his morality- which would be to kill a dragonet or to put his family in imminent danger.

His time, however, is completely his own. He cherishes his own time, and prefers to spend it himself or, even better, with his family or a small group of close friends.

Thanatos himself is calm and collected. His serenity is partially a product of the fact that he's used to being on his own, and expects very little. He is thrilled when he spends time with other people. He deeply respects and cherishes life in any form- plants, animals. etc. Nature itself is kind of sacred to him. Pern has no religion, but he is a deeply spiritual man regardless. He can be somewhat superstitious, and he respects and honors his ancestors and the ancestors of the dragons. (This is not by any means a concrete belief system by any means. It's more like that superstitious urge we all have humored slightly.) He spends time on his own regularly, as an unintentional form of meditation, and on the rare instances he does get upset or irritable, it might be because he hasn't gotten his alone-and-collect-oneself time that day.

Thanatos will do what he needs to do- it's part of his work ethic. In a wartime world, he would kill, and carry out cruel acts of war. He would regret it slightly, he would feel some guilt and plenty of remorse. He would wish the dead well and respect them, but he will still do what he needs to do. On Pern, this is still manifested to a lesser extent- when in the wilds, he will kill a prey animal- and thank it for it's gift of food. He will kill something attacking him, but be said that he had to attack it. He is ruthless in carrying out necessary actions, but he is also quick, clean and respectful. Life in general is sacred to him.

Otherwise, he is fairly compassionate. This is more easily expressed to those close to him- his family and friends- who always see the nicer, not-cold side of him. They are the thing he relishes above all else. With his friends and family, he is gentle and nurturing. He is also fascinated by gentleness, and the way to gain his respect is not by proving oneself as a good fighter or a strong person or anything else— it's by compassion. It thrills him to see and know there are good people in the world.

Thanatos is a family man. He has always loved his family at Ornabb, and only a strong sense of duty to the good of pern could compel him to leave that life. He wants a family- though knows as a dragonrider this is probably not a possibility. Being a deeply emotional and slightly poetic person at his core, he wants to be surrounded by people he is comfortable with. A pack, if you will. He's also a hopeless romantic, though doesn't always get the opportunity to express this (he will feel no qualms about talking about it if he ever does, though). At his core, Thanatos is a lover, not a fighter.

Thanatos is a deeply honorable man. He is usually straitforward, when asked, and does things according to his strict set of morals. He is honest, and says plainly what he means. He is deeply philosophical and thoughtful- he's usually lost in some thought when he's alone, pondering the consequences of an action or the meaning of a word. The only way to really rake up his ire and turn him into a creature of fire and anger is to attack his pack, so to speak- his close friends or family are sacred, and he will become quite protective of them if provoked. He can also be quite cold if he doesn't have people to warm him. Loyalty is second nature to him. Thanatos feels deeply connected to nature and to exploring- it's in his blood- and will frequently wander into wilderness when his services are not required elsewhere. Despite his quiet, he has a full range of very strong emotions. He just won't show it to everybody, but this is not because he's hiding from anything- it's because he was never, essentially, asked, and if he is, he will gladly display and speak frankly about anything he is feeling

History

Thanatos hails from Ornabb hold, and his family has been there as long as there has been an Ornabb hold. His great-grandfather, a spry young lad full of vigor and a want of adventure, was amongst those who first helped established it. Not one to miss out, he was amongst those who explored from the hold, giving it it's reputation for housing a wannabe craft of explorers. Since then, it's been passed down to grandfather to his father and then, as soon as Thanatos was old enough not to get killed immediately in the wild, to Thanatos himself.

The men in this fairly short line bred young, and for pretty good reason- exploring can be deadly work. Thanatos' great grandfather got bitten by some variety of tunnelsnake, which happened to be poisonous, and died at 25. Thanatos' grandfather was wounded in a hunting accident and caught death from the resulting infection at the age of 29.

Thantos himself was about 10 when he started getting going in the exploring in earnest— he'd already been trained in basic survival and hunting, and going out with his father soon became his absolute favorite activity.

Thanatos' father did outlive his own father and his grandfather- he hit the age of 34 before he succumbed to his own exploration-borne death. Like his own grandfather, he managed to succumb to a poisonous tunnelsnake's bite. For the 14 year old Thanatos, this was a major blow, but the boy continued to find solace in forays into nature- the thing that had always connected to him to his father.

It's been four turns since then, and Thanatos has found once more an equilibrium in his life at the hold. I'll have him searched on camera.

Dragon

Tryskilnith
Green F Dragon
Although it's hard to tell right off the bat, the base coloration of the dragon is a light green, not bright enough to be considered anything eye-scorching or retina burning. Almost melon-like, if that's applicable on Pern. Many markings muck up the little dragon, the most notable being the dark smudges that seem to flank over the sides of the beast. Bands similar to this dusky shade wrap around all four legs of the beast, down to the claws themselves on the forelegs even. Some blueish tones (maybe teal? No, too light for that) mark up the ribcage—in fact, they even mimic the rubs themselves in shape and direction, and strangely enough the color is only localized in that area, disappearing when it nears the breastbone or stomach.

A douse of saturated yellow splashes over the head of the dragon, submerging those slightly-longer-than-normal headknobs fully. A richer green coats the throat, although the coloration dapples away once it reaches around the mid-neck area. Now, what is really interesting are those wings. The dragon's wings have specks that range in size and shape everywhere, layered with the same saturates green found at the throat and even the yellow that's on the head. Almost white-hot freckles manage to cover large expanses of the membrane, although on closer inspection they are just a faint green-yellow.
