Switch's opusth

Ouroboros Neon Opusth

Badly mauled as a hatchling, Opusth bears the marks of that trial. He is small for a neon, and his shine will never quite rival those of his brothers, always being just a touch more dim then many would think ideal. His legs are slightly misshapen and bear the scars of his traumas. In contrast, his wings are very well developed- they're what he relies on the most, rather then his legs. His gait is slow and jaunty on the ground, but he flies as naturally as a fish swims. His hide is bright yellow-green, with the signature neon glow, but it is marred with red across his face, wings, and torso, in splatters and stripes.

Orouboros Egg

ouroegg13.png
The Ouroboros egg is relatively small, though it is much closer to the medium side of the spectrum. In color, the shell is a hazy brown, marked with two deeper circles along the center. This egg literally sits on top of the Tarasque egg, oddly enough. It is obvious that this egg is bold, but it also seems to be a bit of a show off.

Hatching Messages

So when a few of the eggs were rocking, he believed it all to be an image from his sleepy mind and ignored it for the time being. This however soon got changed thanks to a load thud. Greeth off course shot his head up to see The Ouroboros Egg had fallen over and had a nice thick crack running along the shell. From the cracks an ever so blinding and bright light was escaping. They were hatching! Greeth’s humming sounded somewhat panicked as he looked around. Nobody was here yet! And with the time of day it would only be the question if the candidates would appear on time.

The egg which had already been cracking by now was nothing but cracks and a very dim glowing light peeked out from said crack. It rocked a little from left to right before the shards just fell down to reveal a lovely green and red colored creature who was glowing just as the gold dragon in the sky. Neon. However this baby seemed to be far less glowy than the neon hatched from the clutch a turn earlier. And it just stood there, looking from left to right before tilting his head. He took a few steps before running and spreading his wings. A hop was made into the air and he landed onto of the egg where his shell used to be, ha!

The neon remained standing on the egg half buried in the sands, eyes gleaming over the rest of the candidates with a loud rumble. He was the first! That would show all his siblings to come that he off course was the best of the best. Silently the glowing dragon flexed his claws, considering to walk out to the candidates for a moment. But instead it stifled a yawn and rested his body on the egg, somehow managing to keep his balance. It could just rest here for a while, watching his siblings hatch and rub it in their hatchling faces that HE was first and not them. Oh that indeed seemed like the best plan as the neon’s eyes went over the eggs before falling still on the group of three small eggs.

Mauling Message

The prism had hatched and made a low hiss to the green who snapped her head back at the other right away before slithering over, opening her jaw to attack the smaller female. But said jaw snapped shut midair as there was this silent conversation going on between the two. The eyes of the pair of ladies flashed from the deep red to a sudden moment of green before melting away again in swirls of red. Clearly they had some plan on their mind for now. Both heads turning in that dramatic fashion to the still preening neon who was still, oblivious. To the pair that had hatched.

The green was first to be set into motion and coiled and squirmed her way over to him, hissing loudly and flashing her fangs to the neon. Said neon focused his attention on her and had that still shit eating grin as he let out a claw to poke her nose. The poke caused a very deep rumbling growl to escape the dragonet.

While the green was distracting the source of light, the prism dragon started to wiggle and hop in a familiar way as the other had. She made her way towards the other side of the neon slowly. The green was still hissing and glaring at the other. Just waiting for him to make a move more than just the poke. And finally after a minute he started to shift and slip offs the egg.

Now was the moment the prism made her move, using her wings for a beat to launch herself onto the other, trying to coil around him and bite him in the neck. The green just gave an amused hiss, giving the cocky neon a bite in his tail with her fangs. The neon was shrieking and crying out in pain, trying to fight the pair of ladies off him but failing quite miserably.

Finally the first of the ladies let go, the green. She gave a warning hiss to the neon and prism before slithering off in the direction of the very few females, cocking her head silently at him, fangs still clear in sight with a slight stain of ichor to them. The stare she gave could be bone chilling. The stare didn’t end as she shifted herself down onto the sands, watching the females like a predator eying a prey. The first to move would get it in the face.

The prism took a bit longer to let go of the now ichor stained neon who cowered down to the sands, ichor staining it ever so slowly, eyes flashing in panic as he looked around for his bonded, where was he?! The glowing hatchlings wings unfolding already but he remained in place non the less.

Impression Message

Finally an egg of the larger cluster started to move, cracks moving over the purple line that The Leviathan Egg held. The second to largest egg cracked apart and spilled out a tri colored bronze who actually curled up for a moment, taking his sweet time to look around as to what all was happening to the other hatchlings. He could see blood, Green bitch, and a mauled neon. Well it was obvious we needed some form of help. He himself? NO bad bronze, don’t think like that!

The bronze shook his head a few times before making his way over to the neon carefully, lowering himself to be at the same eye level before giving a very loving nuzzle to the dragonet before shying away. The pair just stared at each other with the occasional whine coming from the neon dragon who seemed to get weaker and weaker by the second. This even bloomed out into a shriek and the larger hatching carefully took the other by the neck. Much like a mother cat would do to her kittens, to bring him over to a group of females.

The Neon finally managed to inch the last of the way before coiling around the legs of one of the ladies, looking up with pleading eyes to her for help and relief of the pain. Still he was being on high alert for the lurking green dragonet that was able to attack at any given moment.

Personality

What's life without a few risks?

Opusth has taken that message to heart. Despite the harshness of the mauling he received so shortly before hatching, Opusth's bravery seems to have been untouched. Indeed, it may have been bolstered, and gained a touch of recklessness to it. Opusth could be called a daredevel: he enjoys taking risks. The bigger the risk, the better it is. Sharp loops in the air, staring down challenges- he can do it, and he will do it, if he has half the chance.

He's not scared of death, either, or of going between. He knows such things have to come in time. He'll die eventually anyway, and he wants to do it on his own terms— either after having lived a long, full life that he can be proud of, where he did things others may not have considered, OR in the process of taking one of those wild risks. He'll do it for a cause, or just for the hell of it, too— if someone needs protecting from some vicious and deadly foe, you can believe he'll step in, but he's just as liable to risk himself over a bet or a whim, too.

It's not that he believes himself invincible— he knows very well that he isn't. Rather, it's that he's confident in the knowledge that he has Switch. The woman is a healer- if he gets wounded, she can tend him. If she can't, well, it won't matter because he'll be dead, and what matters to the dead?

As such, Opusth can be a danger to himself, and to others near him. Switch tries to keep a close rein on him, to prevent him from hurting others, at least, but she can't watch him all the time, and he'll take opportunities as soon as he sees them. He'll frequently think before he leaps, too, and still take that unwise leap, if the reason's good enough. He's not thoughtless— rather, he's thoughtfully reckless.

It's hard to impress Opusth— he lives pretty far on the edge, and he does things and sees things that many wouldn't dream of. Thus, other people's far off tasks are, in his mind, rather ordinary. Now, this isn't always the case in reality, but the result is much the same: most things, he's just going to shrug at. It takes a lot to earn his respect and make him applaud you, especially when it comes to the more physical thrills and risks he enjoys taking the best.

While he doesn't really go around boasting and inflating his ego, he is a show off. He wants to be seen doing these things that he's so good at, and he desperately wants respect and admiration. He feels like he has something to prove- he needs to provide ample proof that he IS the best, because he knows he is. It's really just a matter of convincing everybody else, and that's kind of become his vocation.

This is somewhat tragic, because Opusth isn't the most graceful creature in the world. He's rather clumsy, and lacks a lot of finesse. The only exception is in the air, since he spends so much of his time moving with his wings rather then his legs. He's a swan in the air, and a graceless bull on the ground. He can be clumsy in other ways, too, particularly involving diplomacy.

He's not really the sharpest tool in the shed, if you get my meaning. Opusth is probably of average intelligence, or maybe a little lower then average. This mostly comes out of a lack of attention span— he gets bored easily. The things he knows how to do, he's very good at. New things, however, will usually fail to capture his interest, and he will be slow to pick them up. Don't expect feats of logic or other sorts of conventional intelligence out of this dragon: you are going to be disappointed.

Opusth is probably going to spend a lot of time making friends with the whers. Why? Because frequently he's nocturnal. It's not insomnia, though it frequently looks like such- it's that he really honestly finds it easier to be awake at night, which suits Switch just fine. As a result, he and Switch are late risers and late to bed. The nocturnal crowd at the weyr will see a lot of this pair, and they're presence in day time will basically be limited to what they must and should attend. Because dragonriders operate during the day, it will thus be more of a half-and-half schedule: awake for the afternoon and the wee hours of the morning.

Opusth wants to be the first at everything. It doesn't matter what it is. If there's a way to be first in what he's doing, he's going to look for it like it's the holy grail. It's part of his want for recognition: he wants his name to go down in history. He knows how fragile life is, and he wants to be remembered. That means doing things that are worth remembering, and one of the best ways to do that is to be the first at something. This actually results in a lot of hard work- you can bet that if Opusth sets himself to do something, he's going to put everything he can into it, in hopes of doing it either first or best.

And speaking of that, it's really hard to change Opusth's mind. Call him stubborn or determined: both of them have the same effect, though Switch would probably say it's more determination rather then stubbornness. He simply has goals he's unwilling to abandon. Similarly, he's resilient. He's come this far. He survived the vicious mauling of his hatching, and has flourished— it's hard to take him out of the game. He's also pretty forward: he's going to say what he thinks when asked, and do what he wants to when he can.

Enthusiastic and eager, Opusth wants to please and to do well. He means well, even if he can sometimes be a touch overwhelming.
