- Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.
Looks
Quing is about 5'4", and not particularly imposing. Ze does hold hirself confidently, and projects a sense of being comfortable with hirself and what ze is doing. Hir hair is black, and ze tends to keep it short and somewhat well-kept. Hir face is fairly square, with soft and delicate features. Ze has relatively large green eyes, and a delicate nose. Ze tends to prefer practical, if form-fitting clothes. Hir build is soft-ish, though ze does have a flat chest. Ze does tend to prefer red and pink clothing.
Personality
Quing knows exactly what ze is. That's great, because everyone else can never be quite sure.
The most obvious example of this, and the one which I shall address first, is the gender issue. Because people are inherently interested in what's in other people's pants, and because Pern is inherently a gendered society and it's one of the first things people notice, it's somewhat of a big deal to explain it. Unfortunately, I'm not going to. Quing's personal perception of gender is very much something ze keeps close and has no reason to question for hirself. Ze knows where ze stands, and doesn't particularly think that it should matter much to anyone else. Quing's features and build seem kind of soft and delicate. That said, hir chest is flat, and there is a slight bulge in the front of hir trousers.
Because Quing doesn't see hir own gender as a big deal, ze doesn't discuss it often, with anyone. Ze kind of hopes that people will see it the same way as they see gender for everyone else, and kind of.. be polite enough not to bring it up. That said, this is not a perfect world, and thus hir gender has come into direct question before. Ze usually politely redirects the conversation, because when it comes down to it, hir own gender is not a BFD. Ze does not flinch at any pronoun, and will respond as equally to 'she' and 'he', which is perhaps the most obvious sign of their genderqueerness. Most people tend to assume that Quing is an effeminate bio-male. Ze only really considers hir own gender when it comes up around the rest of the world. It does NOT make up the foundations of everything ze thinks about. When it comes down to it, ze is also a 19 year old person, a candidate, a traveler— all of these things are much more forefront in hir mind at any given time.
Ze is incredibly comfortable in hir own skin. Quing knows exactly what ze is, in terms of goals and dreams and desires, and thus is an incredibly confident person. Having a strong foundation gives stability when you're looking out across the wider world. Ze is also fairly smart, and excellent at making observations: ze notices small things, and files them away for later use. Ze is fairly empathetic and pretty good at people. IF ze wanted to, ze could probably be incredibly manipulative.
Quing is incredibly strong-minded. Ze knows what ze believes, and there is very little in the world that is going to shake Quing's ties to those beliefs. Quing can and will be as stubborn as a mule, especially when it comes to motivations or ideologies. Hir primary motivation seems to be finding a place in the world where ze can be comfortable and somewhat accepted. With regards to "the good" and questions of such morality, Quing seems to be incredibly subjective. Morality is this odd grey-area that ze doesn't have very much familiarity with, and thus ze avoids the thought that hir own morality is the end-all-be-all way of viewing the world. Similarly, ze seems mildly interested in improving life for everyone else— to a point. Unless ze's offered some concrete incentive, ze probably isn't going to do much for anyone who isn't emotionally tied to her. Ze's somewhat selfish, when it comes down to it.
Ze is, however, very self-aware. People are people, and you can't instantly expect everyone to know what's going on around you. Ze knows how ze comes off, and how ze's words and actions effect things. Face it: when you do shit, things happen— there are consequences to everything. Ze typically knows what they are, and is willing to handle them when they come around.
Ze is brave, and stoic. There isn't very many times when anyone will see hir react to pain or other such unpleasant things. Ze has the ability to keep hir cool in a crisis, and is typically very calm. This sometimes makes hir seem distant, cool, or unapproachable— which ze's somewhat fond of. Ze likes to be somewhat intimidating or, to friends, respected. This isn't to say that ze doesn't feel, though it may seem like it at times— ze feels intensely, but ze isn't going to show it in front of normal people. To show weakness is to be vulnerable, and to open yourself to being used or wounded. Ze is a warrior— perhaps not overtly, in that ze's not going to run around with a big stick and brandish it around at everyone, but nevertheless, ze has the presence of mind of a fighter, and treats most challenges like a battle.
The world seems to be fairly amusing to hir. Ze's always got this little, slightly-smug smile on hir face— and people are apparently the most amusing things of all. She's most amused by people's curiosity of anything- watching people learn is fascinating. People in general are fascinating. This is part of the reason that Ze is intentionally vague in most conversations, especially when asked questions. Ze loves to see people struggling with a question, and watching what they do to solve it: ze sees it as a puzzle. There's more to it then just that slightly sadistic urge- ze also does believe that any information you found for yourself, rather then just being told, will ultimately be stronger in your mind and you will feel better for finding it yourself.
Ze is prone to making strange comments from time to time. Quing tends to notice strange little things, that most people might miss, and to making strange connections. Ze spends a lot of time in thought, working out where ze stands on certain issues and how to relate to teh rest of the world.
Quing is an ambitious person. Ze occasionally dreams about being the philosopher lord, and those dreams that aren't about having that much power still involve hir in places of respect and power. The world is Quing's chess game. Quing can be slightly severe, and ze can also be very benevolent. It's somewhat good for Quing, thusly, that ze has a natural sort of charisma: there's this gravitas to everything ze does that tends to draw a lot of people in, and ze typically sounds like ze knows what ze's talking about. Though Ze knows the value of diplomacy, ze is not a soft little flower: Quing can be a very harsh creature, and is not afraid to use that harshness.
History
Quing's history is very deliberately secretive. You'll almost never hear hir talking about it, and what ze does say is vague. It IS certain that ze has not lived at the weyr hir entire life. Ze showed up about 3 years ago, a weatherstained traveler. Ze claims to have been traveling for two turns prior, and the traders of the caravan with which she was traveling confirm hir presence for a year, as well as saying they picked hir up at a waypoint around then, so clearly she was traveling for some amount of time before then. Quing claims to have come from a lower-class family living at Allerand hold.
A very careful check of the records at Allerand hold will, if anyone cares enough to look, reveal that there was no such person named 'Quing' there.
Nevertheless, hir life after coming to Literair is not shrouded in mystery. Ze showed up and didn't intend to stay long, but found found weyrlife charming and comfortable. Initially scared of the dragons— ze had never seen them so close before— ze warmed up quickly, and became entranced by them. As soon as ze could, ze signed up for candidacy— mostly in fascination— and made the call to stay at the weyr permanently (yes, in that order).
