Consise/Basics

Name: Peregrip
Nickname: Peri

Position: Candidate
Past Ranks: holdbrat

Gender: Male
Sexuality*: Pan

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Shortness seems to run in this family: Peregrip is also short for a male, only reaching a full height of about 5'5". His hair is brown and he wears it to his ears— it's probably longer then that, but naturally assumes rather tight curls. His large eyes are brown, and his features are round and friendly. He, too, is built lightly, though shows some promise of filling out with muscles, as he ages.

Personality

Likes: Having fun, Having a good time, Drinking, Friendly people, and canines.
Dislikes: People who tell him what to do, mean people, bullies, hidebound old people, and being inside too long.
Fears: Responsibility and a lack of freedom.
Goals: To have a great time, and to keep and maintain a large group of friends.
Quirks The only person whose advice he's likely to take seriously is Mari's, and he's the mastermind for a lot of the trouble they get into.

He and Mari come as a pair- no matter where life takes them, they're probably going to be connected. He takes great comfort from that— it's partially the reason he allows himself the comfort of such freedom.

Of the pair, he's the mastermind of most of their mischief. Mari happily goes along with most everything, but the crazy schemes are mostly his inventions. He's certainly a mischievous sort— part of what spurs him to it is that he likes causing small, harmless chaos and seeing people's reactions. He's the sort who would be prone to practical jokes, and he likes to cause trouble and mischief.

He never means it maliciously, of course— he's not mean or anything. He just likes having a good time! He considers what he does to be an expression of his freedom, in the physical way. It's slightly selfish, and it's true that his needs occasionally motivate his mischief as well— stealing food from people's gardens or fresh-baked goods from the kitchens when te staff isn't looking, for instance. But he never means it harmfully and he usually has an excuse or a reason or something he can pull out of his sleeve: for the baked goods? Well, they'd be coming to them eventually, since the weyr's kitchens make food for everyone. Why not skip the waiting?

The fact that he's inquisitive and curious mixes with his natural impulsive rashness: a potentially bad combination. He gets into everything, because he's curious and he wants to know what's going on.. things like that. It'll occasionally even lead him into truly dangerous situations, and is certainly something that leads him into trouble quite frequently. He's definitely the sort to leap before he thinks.

Thankfully, Mari is there to act as his foil. He confides everything to her, since they've been friends basically since birth, including his harebrained schemes and ideas. While she'll usually happily go along with most of his plans, if he has some idea that's truly insane, she'll mention it. Ordinarily he doesn't think much of authority or people's advice— rules are more like guidelines— he'll listen to her, and generally respect her decisions.

Peregrip is motivated primarily from a want to have fun. He likes experiencing life to the fullest, and playing around and having a good time. Responsibility? Not so much, unless whatever he's responsible about is fun.

He's very social and outgoing: He loves people, he loves having conversations, and he's usually the one to make overtures to strangers. He enjoys drinking, dancing, and singing: usually at the same time. If there's a party, he'll gladly show up, if he's invited!

He's actually rather witty, and enjoys thinking. He's quick on his feet and quicker with words— he'll usually think up some response or retort. Very little seems to make a dent in his optimism- his level of chipperness can get annoying to some. Like Mari, he's loyal and surprisingly brave, and won't think twice about charging down someone who's twice his size for a good cause.

History

Mari and Peregrip were born into the same large family. The extended family lived generally together- cousins, aunt, uncles, grannies, all of it with the immediate family, and no difference was made between cousins and brothers. Mari was born 4 years before Peregrip, but the two of them grew up together and were very close friends, making mischief everywhere.
Otherwise, their childhoods were relatively normal. Mari got involved with the fishercraft, taking after her side of the family, at the age of 12— her involvement was small, generally limited to small boats near the shore: nothing like her father, who'd take large boats out for longer periods of time. Peregrip considered the craft, and gave apprenticeship a try when he was 12, but only lasted a year: it was too boring. He was much more given to the harper crafts, and informally flirted with the idea of going into the craft until he was 15.
Shortly after Mari's 20th turnday, while Peregrip was still 15, everything changed. The disasters began happening— small at first, but increasing in fervor. It was enough to make everyone nervous.
Luck was on their side: when the tidal wave that destroyed their hold began making it's way to shore, they were well away: assisting taking a delivery of fish to the weyr. They didn't learn of the disaster until well after, when a rider returned with a report of the damages— the hold was destroyed, they had nowhere to return to.
It was devastating. As far as they knew, none of their large family had survived— they only had each other, further bringing them closer. The weyr graciously opened it's doors to them, and they took the offer— it wasn't as if they had anywhere to go.
This turned out to be the wise decision. Not terribly long after the tidal wave wrecked their hold, thread fell again, destroying large sections of pern's population, the great dragons included. The rest of the holders were herded into the weyr. Mari and Peri looked for their family amongst the survivors, but came up empty.
That's where they've been, since. Mari has been looking for something to replace the fishercraft— she's been tentatively looking at the whers. They both stood at the last hatching, of fourteen eggs, though neither Impressed— Peri, never willing to give up, is ready to stand again- Mari isn't quite as sure.
