- Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.
Looks
Relatively small for a pernese woman, Niyfe is only 5'5". Her skin is naturally a creamy tan shade, but is usually darker thanks to exposure to the sun. Her eyes are a dark gray shade, naturally, and her hair is an even brown, usually shorn as short as possible, forI practical reasons. Her features are delicate and pointed, though the shape of her face itself is rounded, and her lips are full.
When it comes to clothing preference, Niyfe prefers loose but durable clothing. She likes brightly colored things, and so when it's practical she'll wear bright shirts and vests. Practicality is her priority, though- durable pants, usually ones that are worn in the knees and the hems. She gets chill easily, so if the temperature ever drops below 60, she'll often don a light jacket of some variety.
Personality
Niyfe has never met a stranger she didn't like- unless, of course, they were being outright hostile to her or her people. She's friendly and forward, occasionally downright bubbly. There's always a confident smile on her face, carried on shoulders who are easy-going and perfectly aware of their own capabilities. She's also somewhat flamboyant: she likes wearing bright colors and clothing that show off some of her shape. In her spare time, she likes to investigate the weavers, and see what things they're making with brightly colored cloth.
Bright is an adjective for Niyfe in several ways: to a lesser extent, she's bright as in sharp and intelligent. She's certainly witty, and a quick learner, especially in tasks which interest her. That definition is overshadowed by the brightness that comes with her force of personality, which is similar to that of a lab's. She's enthusiastic, eager to please, and gregarious. She's more inclined to be social, and likes to have a group of friends she can trust, and a larger group of friends she can be around at any given point in time. Malice doesn't seem to have occurred to her: she's helpful and she means well, and the only thing she needs to convince her that other people are worth being around is the fact that they are human and moderately friendly.
Niyfe will take people for who they are. Shards, with As'tor as a father, she's used to strange and unusual people. She's accepting of strangers, and easy-going. It takes outright hostility to put her on edge or get into her bad books. She's openminded, even for the weyr, and limits or glass ceilings don't seem like objects that would stand in her way. Society's constructs— even it's taboos— are things to her that are easily shed, if she doesn't see the point in them. In today's world, she'd be that friendly, energetic punk rocker. She's a light tomboy as well— it's not a social movement, to her, but it's simply how she is. She's more the sort to run around with the guys then do anything remotely domestic, and she has no skill for domestic tasks. Indeed, she's rather clumsy with them- in the kitchen, she'll knock things over by accident, she'll make more of a mess cleaning then when she started, and she'll prick herself with sewing needles. That these things should be assigned by gender seems absurd to her: Clearly, she is female, and she's no cook.
Niyfe is deeply emotional. Everything she feels, she feels deeply. She likes to be happy, and will usually go out of her way to seek pleasant, comfortable situations, especially socially. She doesn't like strife, and will try to put fights out. That doesn't mean for a moment, however, that she cannot rise to a sticky situation and be brave- she reckons she could face down the same things as her father if she absolutely needed to. Likewise, if she has a reason to feel something, she will feel it, and strongly. The right unpleasant stimuli will drag her into a deep depression for days, and she will mope about it. It's stimuli that bring these things about, so if the unpleasant stimuli is removed, she'll cheer up considerably- she's gotten good at pursuing these and fixing them herself, when they're in her power.
History
Daughter of the searchrider As'tor, Niyfe grew up in the tribe, and has always been fairly close to her father. Her childhood was relatively ordinary- she grew up as a weyrbrat, developed into a young girl, and never really took much of an interest in any crafts. A great student, the weyr's harper urged her to think of a career in that craft, but Niyfe refused: she had eyes for only one profession, and that was riding a dragon like her father.
As'tor did not take much of an active hand in Niyfe's raising. Her mother was a lower-caverns woman, and as such was available to raise her own daughter. She saw As'tor in the weyr, and occasionally spent some time with him: he was more of an interesting heroic story figure to her then an actual father, and that may be why she puts so much stock in dragonriding. she's heard of his adventures secondhand, and seen teh scars to prove him, but he's distant enough to still be mysterious. Their relationship is strange.
Chores have always been the bane of Niyfe's existence- she only did them because she had to, and became quite adept at shirking them (and getting in trouble for it when she did.) She always took her punishments with a strait face, and tended to make the best of them, if it were possible. (Latrine duty's never fun, even with a good attitude.) Since candidacy, she's become more serious about them. The only chore she's ever really enjoyed was cooking, and though she's not good at it, what she lacks in skill she makes up for in enthusiasm.
Her father was full of adventures, adventures proved by the tattoos on Daze's hide and the scars on his body. She's always had a taste for adventure, and thus the dragons were a stronger call to her then the recordkeeping and legal riddles of harpering. She's stood at dragon's hatchings since she turned 14 and first worked up the courage- she's never impressed in the two turns since, but she's not about to give up on that.
