- Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Looks
Mara takes after her family. She is about 5'5", with cream-toned skin and glossy, thick black hair. She wears this hair usually to her shoulders. Her eyes are wide and grey, and offset her full-lips, making her smiles dominate her face. She tends to wear a lot of green naturally. Her build is soft and curvy, and she does carry a little bit of extra weight around her tummy and hips.
Personality
LIKES: Firelizards, bright things, people
DISLIKES: being teased, blood.
SECRETS: thinks the only downside to Impressing is the inability to get married
DREAMS: of living happily with a family that includes Lissith
FEARS: that being a dragonrider means she'll never get what she wanted before dragonriding, or that Lissith will get wounded and go away.
Mara is a very friendly girl.
Loyal to family and friend alike, she sees little difference between the two: if she loves you, she loves you, regardless if you're family— a cousin or a brother— or an ordinary friend. She keeps her people close, and she enjoys being around them— if she doesn't contact her family regularly, she feels uneasy and worried. She often wishes she had a message-trained flitter, to make things easier.
She's very sweet, and means well- Mara likes the people around her to be happy. She'll do things for people, which might make her easy to take advantage of— she's used to shouldering part of her family's chore and work burden, so she'll take chores off other's hands, and will sometimes allow herself to be used without realizing it- for work and other things alike. When she does realize it, she'll hurt and be unhappy, but she's unlikely to confront the person about it— just avoid them like the plague.
She's rather girly— even without specific definition and stereotype, she's a very feminine creature. She has a natural grace to her. She enjoys the company of men, and enjoys admiring them— though, if she were promised to somebody, she wouldn't waver: her loyalty makes that much clear. She has some issue with the concept of sleeping around, which makes her slightly uncomfortable with the relatively easy sexual atmosphere at the weyr, but she is a sexual person outside of that- she just has to grow comfortable with her sexuality, and may eventually be very comfortable at the weyr's sexual freedoms.
She's a romantic, and while eventually she might grow comfortable with sex for the sake of sex, and the nature of flight-sex as non-cheating, she'll always dream of something more. She wants a long-term relationship— heck, she wants a family. She did before Lissith, and Lissith has not totally erased the dream. Changed it completely? Yes, but she still does dream of finding someone who she can live happily with and be loyal to.
Mara does not regret Impressing— she insists this emphatically, whenever it's asked of her. No way in Faranth's name would she change that for the world. She does, however, mourn the life she's lost— her betrothed and the relatively simple life of the hold. She occasionally finds herself growing homesick and wishes to visit her family, which she'll do on a regular basis once Lissith can fly and go between. What's more, she wishes for a place where it would be possible to be handfasted and ride dragons— where her dreams have come true, with lissith included. It's an impossibility, but she still pines for it.
Mara greatly enjoys having nice things— especially clothing and dishware. Her family did not revoke her heirlooms when she impressed, and she thus has a nice collection of dishes she keeps in her weyr, some jewelry, and some nice gather dresses. She enjoys visiting weaver stalls, and is usually up to date on the more recent fashions.
Mara is a hold girl through and through- she's concerned with family, and with the affairs of her friends. She won't usually pass judgment, but she is a bit of a gossip hound.
History
Before Impressing her bright little green, Mara was living an ordinary life in Benden Hold. Her family was by no means ranking, but it was plentiful and lived in the regular weyr. They had ties to the dragonriders: a number of their sons had been searched in the past, and they were deeply rooted in tradition— a tradition which included paying homage to riders, despite the opinions of others. One of the traditions they were rooted in was arranged marriage— they found each of their daughters a good respectable husband.
This was done for Mara, and though some of her sisters objected, she didn't find the arrangement horrible at all. She liked the man she was set to marry, and she looked forward to the lifestyle her mothers and sisters had.
When the betweenings began to happen, all the family's plans were put on hold— amongst the first victims were their sons. Of the three who had Impressed, two had gone between with their dragons, but the third— the closest to Mara in age, M'ris, hadn't been around his blue in time. The dragon winked between, and M'ris— once again Maloris— came home, broken.
Because they were so close, Mara was best suited to helping her brother— she kept him alive, she was the thing he held onto. She slowly got him back on his feet, helping him heal emotionally and regain independence. It was, unfortunately, a full-time job— so she put off her marriage, with her betrothed's consent, to care for him. The two of them still hung out and were close, planning things and such, but the official ceremony would have to wait.
Though they stopped sending candidates to the weyr since the betweenings, her family still attended every hatching— when the second clutch since the betweenings stopped hatched, they were present too. It seemed rather ordinary, until the middle- a light, pale green had started to squeel unhappily, and Mara stood suddenly, beginning to cry- she'd impressed. She made her way down and hugged the green— this changed everything, but in such a good way.
Of course there was no turning back— she wouldn't've if she could. She is now a weyrling, and of course her marriage agreement has dissolved— dragonriders don't get married. Still, she misses her betrothed, and wishes wistfully for the life she could've had— or even better, a way to combine the two lives now.

Green F Dragon
When Lissith was born, she was a pale green shade, almost devoid of markings but for very subtle hints along her shell. As she aged, those markings came through, strikingly— parts of herhide took blue tones, and her face and underbelly were masked in a very pale, snowy green tone. Beneath it were deep turquoise patches, smattering along her form. A more blue version of the pale green swirls along the edge of her wings and her hips and shoulders, breaking the depth of the green. She's small and round of build.
