Consise/Basics

Name: Luchienne
Nickname:

Position: Rebellion leader, Marblerider, bansheerider
Past Ranks: Guardbrat, guard

Gender: Male
Sexuality*: Pansexual

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Hair color: Black
Eye color: Grey
Build: Muscled and tall

Extraordinarily tall, L'chienne is about 6'6", though his boots frequently make him look taller. He is fair-skinned, though frequently sunburned from long exposure to the elements. His hair comes down to his shoulders and has natural waves; he keeps it immaculately clean. It's a deep shade of black, naturally, as is his facial hair, which he also keeps trimmed into a neat goatee. His gray eyes are large and gentle, as are his lips. He keeps his clothing immaculate as possible, and tends to wear formal military garb, complete with sword- thought he sword isn't a dress-sword, it's a functional fighting sabre.

Personality

Likes: Lotus, Harpers, Intelligent conversation, Music, Theater
Dislikes: Being dirty, unwarranted cruelty, the harsh things which must occur, occasionally, in war, people hurting, being without food.
Fears: The dragonriders will be the only ones in charge of pern, human greed.
Goals: To unify pern, to remove the dragonrider's choke-hold on pernese politics and survival.
Quirks Is incredibly fond of fine cheese, and gets very stiff when he's unhappy.

Description
Pern can be Better.

Luchienne has always thought this, and has always done everything in his power to make it such. Individuals are the catalyst for change.

Painfully idealistic with a slight mind for politics, Luchienne has always been very interested in current events. In his youth, he would ask harpers for more in-depth discussions of politics, and was as interested in any discussion of law or ethics with harpers trained in the subject as he was the training of his guard. The greater good became his goal, and he pushed forward with every opening he could, trying to achieve it. Idealism is his primary motivation— life can be better for everyone, and he wants to be the person to make it so. He dreams of a pern where everyone has everything they need, where life is comfortable, where strife is blocked out. He cannot see the current state of affairs bringing that about, and thus he means to be the one to do it.

His idealism guides him, but it alone is not the thing that gives lift to his metaphorical wings. Fueled by strong ambition and given precision by a sharp intelligence, Luchienne can become a force of nature with the right catalyst to send him forward. As a child, he sought knowledge like food: harper's lectures were his favorite part of lessons, and he'd frequently stay behind to grill them with a thousand questions borne of curiosity. Ambition and hard work had him climbing the ranks of the guard, too, slowly but surely.

Born to a father who was effectively a general, Luchienne was trained in etiquette as part of his early lectures. He's incredibly polite, and chivalry for him is not dead. Women are the primary focus of his charm, but he's not above being chivalrous to men, either. He takes anyone who approaches him seriously, and does his best to listen and address grievances to the best of his ability. They give him ideas, and a better idea of how to relate to the public he hopes, one day, to be in charge of.

The downside of his upbringing is that he has a fondness for the affects of higher society. He likes looking nice, and will spend a lot of money on his clothing. He likes good food and fine wine. He likes space and comfort. He can be arrogant, especially when it comes to dragonriders: he sees them as misguided, tyrannical souls who live in chaos. He was, after all, raised in the hold— even if he does admire a lot of their social freedoms.

Perhaps the thing that makes him most dangerous as a potential leader is his charisma. He speaks well, and his idealistic dreams speak of benefits to everyone, and fairness. He's actually very friendly, and his tendency to take people seriously add to his affect. Indeed, he's very charismatic, and those under his command in the days of the guard were known for their loyalty to him.

Luchienne dreams of a Pern united, free from the tyrannical rule of the dragonriders. One unified world, where the people are healthy and happy and can do as they please— no tithes, nothing. If the dragonriders wish to remain in his perfect world, they must come to his side and be equals to the holders. They must no longer lord over those without winged beasts, but rather work for the benefit of those people, as the holders do for them now. He neglects to realize that this world he imagines, stylized with himself as the leader, might be seen as tyrannical itself: he is blinded by his dreams of unity and grandeur.

Interestingly, social freedoms are important to him. He treats women as equal to men, in most respects, and admires some of the weyr's culture: the relatively free sexual atmosphere, without the repression, he likes. He enjoys a lot of the freedom of thought allowed there, too. It's only their leadership he objects to— they only have their own interests at heart.

The events of the past turn— the disasters, everything— have only added fuel to his fire. Indeed, they were the catalyst that brought his ideas of unification to a head, and urged him to do something about it. People being forced to leave their homes (which is his view on the situation), rather then helped to rebuild then? It doesn't sit well with him. Luchienne sees the weyr as using the ill happenings of recent history as a means to solidify their hold on people, a horrible act of manipulation. He despises that to the core of his being. These things, and the Impression of his adored Lotus, are what has inspired him to Act.

Luchienne is no-holds-barred. His dreams of unification can only be brought about through war: he knows this. There are no rose-colored glasses tinting his eyes for this. Outside of his idealistic goals, which he truly believes he can achieve, he's incredibly realistic. He knows he's going to have to deal with shady people, and he knows that things will have to happen in order for his plans to come to fruition. Not everyone will go along peaceably. There will be fighting. There will probably be dying. Cruel things may have to happen.

He bears this burden painfully, but it's out of his hands. These things must happen— the ends will justify the means. If he needs to take hostages, he will. If he needs to kill the leaders and their children to make a point, he will. He will not do it lightly, and he will request moments of silence in honor of their sacrifice.

Chivalry strong in him, he will request gentlemanlike behavior whenever he can— wingleaders may be captured and held, for instance, and then returned for a ransom. He will treat his prisoners like guests (albeit with bars on their windows), and if he thinks it's possible, he will try to talk them over to his side and court a change of loyalty from them. If people surrender, they make keep their lives. He will always have more trouble killing ladies and children then he will killing male leaders- he'll do it if he needs to, but if there's little risk of the situation coming back and biting him on the *** if eh doesn't kill them, he's likely to leave them alive. Mercy, when appropriate, is the mark of a gentleman. He is a strategist, however, and adheres to the idea that Mercy is only appropriate when it does not undermine one's leadership or leave the potential open for an enemy one spared to gain power and finish you off while you're not looking.

History

Luchienne was born into an old guarding family. His father had been a guard, and his father before him, and his father before him.. down as long as they could orally remember. His father had achieved a rank roughly equivalent to general, and had essentially retired by the time Luchienne was born, though he was still addressed by rank and looked to with great respect. His father was in his 50's at Luchienne's birth, and he was one of several children— most of whom were daughters, to his father's slight displeasure. Luchienne's family was primarily based in Starfall.

There was never any question as to what Luchienne would do, when he came of age: sons were expected to follow their father into the guard, and luchienne dutifully did this, at the age of 10. Prior to that, he took all of his lessons as he was supposed to with the hold harpers, eating knowledge as quickly as it was offered. This didn't stop when he entered the guard at 12: his knowledge for hunger continued steadily alongside his training.

Luchienne stayed in the guard most of his life, after that point- his ascension of the ranks were slow, but steady. He could be counted on to perform both well and reliably, and garnered respect based on his abilities, his charisma aside. His hunger for knowledge had also turned itself to productivity- he frequently spoke to his friends of his high ideals. Some considered him to be amusing if misguided, but others listened avidly- regardless of the reaction, people everywhere found him interesting.

He didn't break from this relative norm that he'd made for himself, however, until the age of 34. His guard career was beginning to wind down— there wasn't much use outside of ordinary watches and basic police actions, as warfare was fairly unknown to Pern. He had taken a fondness for wandering in the wilderness at 25: he found solace in it, and it was a great place to think. He had taken a special fondness to certain craggy areas, and was usually capable to keep the wild whers at bay with loud metal weaponry and flash-bombs made of magnesium powder— effective against most whers, and great for distracting everything else.

On one spring evening, he managed to catch the attention of a particular Banshee. The banshees themselves were unheard of at this point, mostly just the stuff of stories and seen briefly by travelers most considered to be crazy anyway. Luchienne himself had never seen one. He managed to stumble into the territory of a young marble— a year old. She snuck up on him and accosted him, hissing and spitting acid nearby. She had never seen a human before, and despite the fact that she was defending her territory, she was curious about what he was.

Thinking to distract her like any other beast, he dropped a flash bomb, which had something of it's intended effect— the banshee that would soon become known as Lotus lept backwards, hissing— but she recovered quickly, and voiced curiosity when she realized she was unharmed.

It was here Luchienne discovered she was intelligent, and a curiosity was awakened. He had a hundred questions of her, and she had several about him- it took some time to figure out a mutual way of speaking, but she began to forge the beginnings of a bond with him, and spoke directly into his mind.

Their bond was slow in progress. Luchienne came to visit her frequently. Within a sevenday of their meeting, Luchienne proposed to her the name "Lotus," which she accepted, thus forging officially their bond. Still, it built slowly. Luchienne pulled away from the guard slightly as he did this— not very unusual, considering the ordinary span of careers in the guard. People thought a man with a reputation for being strange was simply taking the strange habit of wandering on his own for longer and longer. He saw no need to make it known otherwise.

Several months into this tendency, the increasing solidity of his bond with Lotus made him comfortable enough to bring her into the public knowledge— but he kept to himself with her, living more in high-up caves she called home, rather then with the guards.

This served him well— when he had only recently turned 35, the disasters began to happen. Starfall was entirely wiped out by a tidal wave, with little warning— only the height of Lotus's natural home spared him and the marble the same fate. Indeed, the tsunami's wave of destruction was barely a mile from the entrance of their home. Struck by his own luck and the wave of pain that came with the knowledge that his way of life and everyone he knew and love had been destroyed in the tsunami— or almost anyone, considering that Lotus still lived— he retreated to solitude with his banshee.

For several months, Luchienne lived the life of a relative hermit. He was not amongst the few survivors of starhold that went to hte weyr. He emerged only to trade for the things he couldn't come by naturally, for survival- and on these excursions, he learned news that he found increasingly disturbing. The weyr had found the survivors and offered them safety at their home. Earthquakes and the like had destroyed western hold, and those survivors too had been rounded up and taken to the weyr. Luchienne did not believe they'd had a choice— even if they'd agreed, there wasn't an alternative. Why hadn't the weyr helped them rebuild? Why hadn't they helped the holders on their own terms? Why must everyone live with them, with no other options?

It was his anger at this perceived injustice, and a want for human company and the finer aspects of life which could not be achieved in a cave, that finally drew him from this months-long solitude. He did not, however, move to the weyr. Rather, he began to gather people of like mind: the weyr would not help them, but he would. He would forge a different place, where people could have power outside the weyr- the dragons would not be the only option for the people of pern. Hopefully, they would no longer lord over everybody, and people could have independence from them as they had often wanted.

His big dreams and promises attracted people, until his impromptu gathering of like-minded people became more of a movement, and then a full-out rebellion.

Banshee

Lotus
Marble F Queen Banshee
Striking, Lotus' marble coloration picks up several tones. Her hide is primarily dominated by a rose-tone so pale it's almost white. This is broken by flecks of deeper pink and blue, and broken by the viens of greytoned color that mark the stone for which her color is named. A deeper rose tone begins to dominate her extremities, also subtly broken by the veins of grayer toned color: it crawls up her legs and down her neck and the top of her wings, even breaking into light bands as it goes up the end of her tail. Here Vermello takes over— a rich yellow-orange, flecked with lighter yellow, lights down the top of her face, her shoulders, the very tops of her wings, her toes and her tail-tip. These fade into a deeper, reddish pink tone, before being devoured by the earlier rose. Her eyes and the underside of her neck and jaw are claimed by the white-pink.
Lotus' build is long and sinewy. She's a touch small for her color, with long, elegant features. Her form is long, serpentine, and she moves with natural sway. Constantly shifting her weight left and right, it seems she mimics a snake with her ground-bound movements. Taking to the air brings smoothness to her movements, and a certain agility commonly posessed by green dragons.
