Consise/Basics

Name: Loche
Pronunciation: Low-chay
Nickname: Loa (Lo-ah)

Position: Weyrling
Past Ranks: Journeywoman healer assigned to lellinias weyr pursuing a specialty in threadscore injuries, candidate, Apprentice healer, weyrbrat

Gender: Female
Sexuality*: Pan, when she's concerned with sex at all.

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Loche bears a striking resemblance to her brother, Teche. They both share naturally tan skin and warm, soft features, though Loche's are rendered more severe by her usually serious expression. Both also have thick black hair, which loche typically trims fairly short— rarely does her hair get to grow longer then to her ears. Here the resemblance ends; the eyes that stare out of Loche's face are almond-shaped and blue, with heavy lashes that occasionally bothers her. She seems to be naturally wearing kohl; this is probably thanks to igen genes inherited from her father. Her limbs are long and delicate looking, and she moves with a lot of grace, though this is unintentional. Loche has a long, jagged scar running down her back, and several smaller jagged scars along her stomach and the front of her arms, courtesy of the events of the meteor showers that destroyed much of pern's infrastructure.

Personality

If nothing else, Loche is crazy intense.

This is not always a good thing; the young woman can be very intimidating. She doesn't really seem to blink, very often, and has an unintentionally piercing gaze that can be quite creepy if it's focused on one person for a long period of time. There is very clearly some deep thinking going on behind those eyes, some set of equations with which Loche evaluates the world, but you can never exactly tell what conclusions she's come to.

She's a very passionate person. If she's going to do something, she's going to do it right, and she's going to throw the entire weight of everything she is— intellectually, physically, emotionally— into what she's doing. If the problem she's trying to solve is academic, she'll study until the point where she can memorize it with her eyes closed. If she's dealing with a patient, she is going to do everything in her power to bring them back to rights and make them well again.

The former can lead to some pretty devastating failures— it's a fact of healing that you're not going to be able to help everybody, especially when it comes to injuries as dramatic as threadscoring, but that reality seems to not quite have hit home with Loche yet.

There's definitely an idealistic streak in Loche, though it's not really a peaceful idealism. She believes that there is a way to help everybody, but only if they want the help— though she doesn't use that as a judgment call, to put herself above the rest of the group. She has strict guidelines for her own life, and she doesn't like interference with those. Her idealism is feverish and almost desperate, hidden deep beneath the surface, and it's a good part of her motivation.

She's a very strong woman; in the face of adversity, she typically plows forward and does her best to ignore things. If the things she's facing get exponentially harder, then she gets exponentially more stubborn. If she's facing some adversity, she will fight until her dying breath, which she acknowledges openly, even if that thing isn't so much of a concrete obstacle. Academic problems, people she doesn't like, blocks in the way of her goals, or even a concept like threadscores or fighting thread itself— if these things are against her, she will do everything she possibly can to get past them.

All of this passion, idealism and strength can get pretty distracting— she occasionally forgets about her own needs, and is brought back to the reality of them by the people around her. She likes company, sort of, a little bit— well. She likes individual people, and she does get terribly lonely if she starts to think about it, and thus people are good. But she won't usually act on those social needs herself; rather, she'll distract herself entirely with what she's learning. She needs to be pushed towards social events, sometimes, and she needs things to bring her out of her shell. this is part of the reason Teche got her a kitten— to present her with something that NEEDS ATTENTION that isn't work-related.

The ignorance of her own needs can occasionally extend to avoiding sleep and eating; she'll go long periods without sleep, by cram-studying or pulling long shifts in the infirmary. She's not quite as bad about eating, but if she's getting really into something, or really stressed about something, she'll literally forget to do it; it's almost as if the things occupying her brain, which is almost always in hyperdrive, have so dragged her away from her own body that she occasionally forgets it's there.

Somewhere in the back of her head is some interest in romance, sort of, a little bit… but she doesn't often think about it. Relationships are, primarily, a distraction from the things she should be focusing on.

Loche is crazy intelligent; she's got a problem-solving mind that sucks up information like a sponge. If she hadn't gone into healing, she would've been a harper specializing in history, because she has the mindset of a perpetual student. she loves to learn. it is literally a hobby. Any lecture on something that's interesting to her she will drink up with wide eyes and rampant attention. Any new viewpoint or interpretation of something she's familiar with is likewise absorbed with fascination. She tends towards the more concrete academic persuits— science, math, and such, which is why she went into healing. Problem solving games are great fun, to her, as are games of strategy.

She's got an excellent sense of professionalism, though she is occasionally very frank about things that could use some softening; she sees no reason why people shouldn't be faced with the full extent of problems. To soften the truth is something she actually considers cruel, because it adds an element of lying, which is a betrayal of trust, especially in a medical professional. That said, her serious nature serves her well as a healer. She's also surprisingly soft and gentle (not softening things, but in terms of bedside manner)— people who know her personally are occasionally surprised by how warm she can be, with her patients.

There IS a warmhearted side of her— it's just nestled underneath the whole zealous and impartial passion of learning, healing, doing, etc. She kind of relegates it to back-of-her-mind status, in terms of her personal life, but there is one or two people who can bring it out in her— her kitten, her brother, and the rare friend can bring genuine smiles to her face.

Her professionalism can stab her in the foot, too— it's a major hurtle when it comes to social things. She doesn't really trust easily; she can be a hard person to get along with and get to know. She's almost awkward in social situations, and she gets frustrated easily.

It's interesting to note that although she is not a vain person, and doesn't spend a lot of time messing with the finer details of her appearance, she doesn't like her scars— whenever she gets to thinking about it, she finds them ugly and feels very self-conscious about them.

History

A product of a flight, which was in turn a product of a hesitant relationship between two riders, Loche was a happy accident. She was, like many dragonriders' children, relegated to being raised by the lower-caverns staff amongst the rest of the weyrbrats, though she knew both of her parents and their dragons well, and thought of them with pride. She had a relatively normal life, from that point. She was very close to her brother and her half-sister, all of whom regularly played together in the lower caverns.
She always showed a great sense of empathy and interest in other's wellbeing, and a sense of responsibility, so when she elected to become a healer at the age of 12, no one was surprised. She went to the healer hall to do most of her learning, becoming an apprentice and in the process saying goodbye to her weyr family.
Being a very passionate individual, she threw herself into her studies and made good progress. She had recently walked the tables to become a journeywoman when the devastation brought on by the meteor showers occurred. She was lucky enough to survive, though it was a close thing: She ended up being trapped under rubble, and it was only thanks to a good watchwher that she survived. she managed to sustain several lacerations in the accident; one large across her back, and a number of relatively superficial cuts on her front. She spent a long time healing from these, and in the meantime new weyrs were built and people got on with their lives. Thread began to fall again, though for longer durations in shorter amounts of time. Riders with thread lacerations began filling up the sick bays, just as she was healing enough to once again return to being a healer.
Effected deeply by the gruesome threadscores she'd seen, she requested to be posted to a weyr, so as to specialize in treating the injuries. She's been at New Lellinias since.

Dragon

Orange Ominith
This orange is a stunning vibrant orange with lighter orange markings. She is at the smaller end for an Orange, but agile for her coloring. She has a nice robust look, though a distinctively streamlined look, angular facial features. She's muscled for a female Orange but as she matures she'll fill out very well.

Pets

Scamp
Black M Domestic Feline shorthair
Scamp is just growing out of that lanky kitten body, so his limbs are still a liiittle bit too long. His face is angular, and he's covered in sleek black fur with a tendency to shed, everywhere. He's a very attention-wanting cat who loves people; if you sit down, he'll invade your lap, and he doesn't CARE if you have better things to do, he wants you to pet him now. He'll deal with the occasional scratch behind the ear if you're really busy, but he still wants to be near you, and preferably sitting on you, if you're around.
