  • *(Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender.   • ***Before we begin, a note about Lily's gender: Lily is special, and is a genderqueer. She was born female, and takes female pronouns by default, but this is largely because pern at this time does not have gender neutral pronouns. She is feminine [hence the femme], but she does not consider herself female, nor does she consider herself male. She considers herself something besides, and a little bit of both. This is all internal. Externally, Lily dresses like a girl and is referred to as a girl, which really annoys her and is beginning to seriously depress her. This is part of the reason she's looking to get out of the hold, since holdlife is so conservative and she can't explore her gender roles in the hold. At the age of 15, Lily is almost done growing. She's 5'2", and will only be about 5'4" when she's done growing. Her eyes are large and round, and a liquid grey tone. They're set in a round face with freckles— she's pretty, in that farmgirl kind of way. Her hair is wavy and thick and black, and she wears it long. In build she's slim, and she'll probably fill out at the age of 16 into a round, slightly-plump build. She tends to wear dresses and skirts; old habits die hard.

As much as Lily would have otherwise, she is a creature of the hold, and those restrictions are deeply embedded and hard to shove off.

She has been bombarded since birth about women and how women ought to act. Women are inferior to men, they get married off in their mid teens, and they have babies and do as their husbands say. She has seen her mother in this life- she has seen the relationship between her mother and her father, and she can't say she likes it. She doesn't want that for herself, and the idea of having children is revolting to a part of her that is not, internally, female. She dreams about escape.

Should she escape, the transition will be rockier then she might expect. The weyr is a new world, and though it is more open, she will feel out of place. She's a shy person, especially in new situations— she's lived her whole life in the hold, where things are painfully ordinary. She'll be exhilarated at the change, but it will be a slow process to come out of her shell, and to begin to explore the world fully. It will be even more of a slow process to come out of her sexually— to get comfortable in the more sexually open atmosphere of the weyr, to open up to sex, to allow herself to get comfortable with the fact that she likes all genders and the fact that she's not entirely female herself.

Lily is somewhat reserved. She's quiet, especially when she meets new people, and she's clearly nervous: it manifests in nervous smiles and figiting. She calms after a short time, though, when she realizes that there is no threat. She's ill at ease with parts of herself, but she will grow mostly comfortable with it by the time she's middle aged. The hold's conditioning will be slow to toss off, and she'll never completely get comfortable with it— but she'll be able to hide her misgivings and enjoy being herself and doing what she wants.

Lily is very calm, in a soothing sort of way. She seems to have an attitude that the world will get bad, but she can handle it; she's a warm point of stability. She can be that for other people, but she's not so good at it for herself— she'll internalize problems and they'll eat her alive, and she won't show it until it's been bothering her for awhile and it's eating her alive. That said, she's very soothing to other people.

Although she's shy and nervous at first, Lily is friendly. She'd rather make friends then enemies, and she's prone to being affectionate when she can. AS she gets more comfortable, she'll get more physically affectionate— though she'll never be casual about sex, barring flights: sex will always be something emotional and deep for her. She's a very sweet person, who wishes to make people happy- even people she hasn't met. She's compassionate and empathetic, and wants to do right by her fellow humans.

Lily has a quiet dignity to her. Even when her life is unraveling at the seams, she moves calmly. It's in everything she does: her movements, her calm, soft voice; she's just naturally dignified. It's unintentional. Similarly, she's somewhat reserved- especially at first, and very subtle with almost everything she does.

Lily is feminine, even though she isn't a girl. Though she'll push gender when she gets to the weyr and begins to get comfortable with her alternative sexualities, she's like women's clothing. She enjoys looking pretty, and she enjoys elegant things. She tends to take softer mannerisms- but it's not complete. As she becomes comfortable with herself, she will also be more comfortable with showing her masculine side, as needed.

Lily is no pushover. She's a strong woman, even if she's subtle about it. The first time she swings around and puts her efforts into something against someone, they'll likely be surprised- she can be quite formidable. She's stubborn, and she's very independent. Her life is her own. It's why she dares consider things like running away from the hold at all. She can be brave when facing new situations.

But Lily is also wise- she's not going to go around fighting everything for the sake of fighting. She picks her battles, and she knows when to strike. She's also very practical and matter of fact. She's going to approach problems from the most practical standpoint, using her strengths to her advantage.

Lily is a loyal creature. The thing that's kept her at the hold this long is the fact that she feels bad about betraying her family by leaving, and it's kept her much longer then she ordinarily would've stayed. Should anything earn her loyalty and treat her well, she will follow them until the end.

History

Lily was born in the hold, and has been at the hold ever since. It's where she expects to spend her whole life, and she can't say she really enjoys being there. She had an ordinary childhood- she was good in her harper lessons, and she wanted to take more but was discouraged by her father, because that's not what was proper for a lady. She does spend a lot of her spare time with the harpers, when she can get away with it, trying to learn more in her spare time. she had a few inconsequential crushes on boys— and on girls. She's even lost her virginity to a boy- she did that at the age of 14, and was terrified for a long time of what her father would do as a result, but thankfully she wasn't pregnant.

Lily has lately been rankling at the bit, and is worried that her father will try to marry her off— she's around the age where her elder sisters were married off. She doesn't like the idea of having kids or bearing a lot of children, or being tied down to that anonymous, dreary lifestyle. She sees the relationship between her parents and she sees how her mother feels and she doesn't want that for herself. Lily seeks bigger and better things, and is terrified she's going to be left sewing clothing and popping out babies for the rest of her life. It's been made worse lately, at the age of 14, because she's gotten a crush on one of the girls her age, and thinks that if her father found out about that, he'd react worse then if she had gotten pregnant by that boy a turn ago.
