Looks
A wirey boy, Lerelus just doesn't seem to be gaining any height with puberty. He's 5'8", and doesn't promise to do much more growing upwards. His build is still fairly twiggy. His skin is a creamy tan, which darkens in the sun and looks rather like he's dirty, instead of tan. His features are thin, but the expression he wears is warm, making them seem more attractive then they otherwise might be. His eyes are a bright green, and his hair a sandy brown. This hair is kept to his shoulders and, despite his efforts to tame it, relatively shaggy looking. He favors green, black and blue tones.
Personality
As affectionate as a canine, the only thing that holds Lerelus back is himself: a sense of nervousness, and an unwillingness to hurt people, which causes a hesitation in his actions.
Lerelus is incredibly good natured. He is sweet and calm, with a genuine affection for most anything alive. Incredibly patient and fairly intelligent, it takes a lot to get in his bad books: he's likely to chalk up unfriendly behavior as human nature, and take it with a grain of salt. He'll avoid people who are nasty to him, of course, but he'll rarely go as far as to hold it against them. Indeed, he'll look for good traits that they show and use that as verification for his internal idea that everyone has an emotional soul- sometimes to the point where he'll ignore flaws that might otherwise need to be paid attention to.
He's not very outgoing, in that he won't approach a lot of people, but he is friendly: if someone strikes up a conversation with him, it's not hard to make friends. He's social, but he likes small groups: he'll be the one in the corner speaking quietly to some friends in a larger party, and though he won't usually seek out audience with most but his good friends, he does enjoy being in groups and having conversations. He likes calm conversations and parties— a sort of intellectual discussion party rather then the drinking and dancing sort of party occasionally favored by his friends, but he'll enjoy those too— just quietly, and in his own way.
Intelligent and a fast learner, Lerelus is a good student. He does have a tendency towards book-learning: the sort of active-learning in the field is not and never has been his forte. He's athletic only as much as he needs to be, but in strategy he excels. He enjoys games that make him think, like chess and riddles. He loves harpers, though he never studied to be one, and likes to speak with them about all sorts of things. He takes things in good humor, and is rarely offended, even if he probably should be. He also has a sense of humor, though it's a more quiet, subdued one.
As he is a good student, he is also an exceptionally good teacher. He's often that one who tutors the kid who's not learning quite as fast as he should be, and if he's ever in a position to teach, he will be great at it. Friendly and patient is a good mix, and he has a high tolerance for slow learning and most frustrating behavior in general. Even people teasing him is likely to get a blind eye turned to: he can be passive in many confrontations. He picks his battles with care.
That said, he's not entirely a pushover. He doesn't care if he gets mocked, but he can't stand to see people who can't defend themselves get pushed around. He's a moral soul, and his morals tend towards humanitarian ends: he thinks everyone deserves to live and be happy to the best of their abilities. He absolutely hates bullying and repression, and WILL get involved against such activities. It's partially why he's standing as a candidate, despite the resistance put up by even his own family. He can be incredibly brave, and he is always incredibly loyal. He's defensive of his loved ones (and even mildly possessive). He prefers peacable ways out, negotiation is ideal- but if he has to, he will spar with words or even fists. (Granted, if he spars with his fists, there's a big change he'll loose; he's a lover, not a fighter.)
Incredibly emotional and incredibly sensitive, Lerelus knows and respects people. Mutual humanity is enough justification for him to give someone a chance, and his empathy gives him an almost intuitive knowledge of other people's emotional body language. He'll do what he can to protect someone's feelings, if at all possible. He is both peaceful and peacable, and tries to maintain an air of balance and serenity in his own life, whenever possible.
Despite his urges to be social, he's not entirely good at branching out. He never fit in entirely as a child, and with the new issues between himself and his family, he is more withdrawn then he was ever before. He is reserved and wary, and trusts very very slowly. Letting people in is a risk, and he doesn't let his doors down for just anyone. He'll be friendly, but it takes awhile to actually get close to him. He tends to be keep his distance. He's a romantic soul and wants friendships and relationships- but the closer people are, the more dangerous it is. He's afraid of responsibility, or, more specifically, afraid of failing his responsibilities to his loved ones and letting them down. He's afraid of the male stigma being passed on to them. He's afraid of relationships in general, ofrejection, of causing pain, and of failure. He'll be slow to enter into a relationship, and certain aspects will make him turn tail and run. Eventually he'll come to his senses, but his mate will need to be as patient as he is, to convince him that the risks are worth the gain.
History
Lerelus grew up in teh weyr. A rare male child, he was at once scorned and coddled, especially before the cure to the mysterious illness had been found. Potentially useful one day for breeding, he was treated like he were made of glass— something he wasn't entirely averse to. He was also a sensitive child, plagued by nightmares through his youth, and he never easily fit in with the boisterous groups of girls who were more common and more valued for traditional jobs by the weyr.
When the cure was found, everything changed. Of course, he was a recipient of the vaccine— an excellent thing, too, because he was just hitting puberty, with all the associated urges and wants. However, it wasn't terribly long after that when boys were allowed to stand as dragon candidates: both something joyous and terrifying. He'd always dreamt of riding a dragon, as much of a pipe-dream as that had seemed, and now it was a concrete possibility! At the same time, the weyr seemed to be taking up arms against the very idea. No matter where he turned, he could see people hting the idea of male riders.. his own milkmother forbade him from joining, as did his blood-mother on her bronze.
It took him turns to work up the courage to defy the weyr and his mothers both, and that is where he stands now: as a candidate to be, if a nervous one.
