L'harn's Dekeigth

Chilled Prussian Wardog Brown Dekeigth

Dekeigth might put someone in mind of a terran doberman, if they met both creatures. He's average size for a brown, but he stands with pride, giving him the appearance that he's bigger then he actually is. He has long, pointed features, and a severe expression. His stature is imposing and proud. He's muscular, but since the loss of his wing he doesn't get as much exercise as he needs to, and is getting a little pudgy around the haunches- something he is incredibly upset about. Further, with age he has begun to move stiffly, as arthritis sets into his legs.

Personality

"I am the ever-loyal wardog."

If this dragon was born in a time without thread, he was born outside of his time. Dekeigth is a creature made to fight something, made to find a cause and pursue it, made to be a warrior.

He is strong, physically and mentally. Physically, his build is muscular and formidable. There is little that could get in his way, when he charges. Mentally, he has force of will to see himself through even hard tasks. If something he cares about is at stake, he will follow the trail as long as he can. He's very brave, with the fortitude to stand up from threats which are big and scary, and the smaller ones that make others cringe away without noticing the danger. If it matters to him, and if it matters to his rider, he WILL do it, regardless of what happens to him in the meantime. Death is the only impediment he'll accept. He's very tenacious.

In his youth, he was considered very promising. In his prime, he would've lived up to that promise in the best to his ability. His goal is to prove himself, in every way possible, for every honor that he can earn. He wants to be respected, and he wants to earn that respect. He also thinks that if you want to get anywhere, you should prove yourself. He doesn't take vague promises, and while he'll nod to potential, he won't award anyone laurels until they've earned them.

Dekeigth is ambitious, but he's not after power or rank. Rank will come with the honors he searches, but he doesn't crave rank for itself. No, he wants to be recognized for his valor, he wants to be honored as the beast of war that he is. In his age, he wants others to point to him and say that's Dekeigth, the fierce warrior of a brown. Honor is very important to him, both as something given officially, and as an ideal to be upheld.

Dekeigth is also very fierce. It's present in his expressions and in the tenacity he pursues things with. Loyalty is a very important concept to him, as well: if you've earned his loyalty, you have it for the rest of his life. L'harn has it most, of course, and after him the Weyr. He's a very serious being, and he takes little more seriously then loyalty and doing one's duty to the weyr.

Dekeigth is somewhat quiet- he's not about to chatter anyone's ear off, though he'll speak when he feels the need. He's always on watch-dog mode. L'harn may relax, but Dekeigth will always be "on", as if he might make up for this. It's hard even for L'harn to get him to relax. An incredibly wary beast, he's always on the lookout for the next threat, and he's easily frustrated.

Dekeigth's concerns are fairly simple. He wants to do his duty, and he wants to get things done. He's very efficient, and he has no time or energy for dawdling. Younger creatures playing around and wasting time he'll roll his eyes at, though he won't snap at them unless they're actively putting things in danger. Playing in one's spare time? He'll ignore you and roll his eyes. Shirking chores to play? He'll glower, but he still won't say mor ethen a comment. Doing your job badly and thus putting people in danger so as to play more? He will chew you out.

Dekeigth is somewhat arrogant, and age has only strengthened that. He thinks he knows best. His time, his wounds: those are experience. He doesn't give advice loosely either, turning the same seriousness with which he approaches loyalty towards this issue— and, more loosely, everything. He's not fond of young upstarts, though he is wise enough to know that sometimes young upstarts have good ideas. He just think that young upstarts need to be tempered with experience, and he's more likely to trust someone with experience behind then to someone who has none.

Dekeigth has a deep respect for lines of command. He will accept a lot from his leaders, and he will do little to subvert them. If his rider chooses to, he will disapprove, though he won't put his rider in any danger by exposing them. Likewise, if he sees his leaders as doing a danger or disservice to his home, he will see it as his duty to oppose them- but he will feel great guilt for it. Dekeigth makes a good leader— he has the tempered head and fierceness for it- but he also knows when it's time to be a follower, and will not rankle his position too terribly.

Age is a heavy, heavy burden for this dragon. Loosing his wing was bad enough— he has never really recovered from that wound, even when the skin healed. It was a major blow to everything he is and was. He went from a position of respect to being essentially useless, and he struggled for a long time to conceptualize his place in pernese society without a wing. He still struggles with it, and occasionally wonders what makes him better then a wher, to not be able to fly. L'harn brings him out of his depths when he gets really down about it, but it still always bothers him. The day Dekeigth lost his wing was a dark, dark day for the dragon, and things have never since really lightened. He lost everything he was, and he lost the best way he could see to prove himself.

Dekeigth has always considered whers to be an inferior species, and hte loss of his wing, which some thought might warm him to the concept, only makes his mood more foul. He dislikes whers and hates having to associate with them.

Dekeigth is pretty self-conscious about his weight. loosing his wing took away his best form of exercise— without the ability to fly, he wasn't capable of doing the thing dragons do best. He runs daily and tries to keep up with things, but it just isn't the same- try as he might, Dekeigth is gaining weight, and is now pudgy around the hips and middle. It's a source of great unhappiness for him, and the arthritis only makes it worse.

To add insult to njury, he is now getting old. His body just doesn't work like it used to, and his joints hurt with the worsening arthritis. IT's very, very frustrating to him not to be able to get up at a moments notice to jog, to hurt when he does, and to huff as he's never before for relatively short [in his opinion] amounts of exercise. As such, he's frequently ill-tempered or, at best, given to brood regularly. He'd be absolutely miserable, if not for L'harn to sooth his mental hurts.

(Doberman) "I have proved my valor" (Prussian soldier) "This is the winter of my discontent, and there is no glorious summer to come."

Mindvoice

Harsh, clipped, barking- like a big dog, with a frigid chill that accompanies it.
