- Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.
Looks
Tall for a woman, Ikarus is 6'5", and towers over most men and women alike. Her mutation is immediately noticable; her frame is long, lithe, and covered in light muscle. Her skin, which is a very pale gray shade, is covered in a thick coat of short black fur, and her hands and feet end in retractable-clawed fingers, with pads on the end of each long digit like a cat. She has a tail, though it is a tad short, and her ears are higher on her head, large and pointed— more catlike then human, though they retain some of the human shape, especially internally. Her eyes are large, round, slitted and green, and her nose is long and flat, ending in an oddly textured section similar to that of a cat's, though not exactly the same. She has sharp teeth, and her hair, which was red prior to the illness, is a pale, washed-out shade, almost pink. She wears it to her shoulders, and it's the only break in the monotony of her black fur.
Personality
There's a subtle, serene strength to Ikarus. It doesn't come from excessive muscles, or a bright force of personality— rather, it's seems to come from small clues, like the way she carries herself, or the cold confidence in her expression. Ikarus is strong, and her mannerisms convey that she thinks herself in control. She doesn't talk much; she doesn't need to. She says what she thinks would best convey what she needs to be said, in as few words as possible. Her voice is quiet, light, and seems to carry an underlying tone of malice to it.
Her morals are questionable, and no one besides her knows what they are, and where her loyalties lie. She seems to have absolutely no interest in making this information obvious, either. She likes being an unknown- a wildcard. Despite that, she does have a very rigid moral structure, lurking deep within her mind- it's bound up primarily with concepts of honor, and a very developed self-interest. She can be callous and cruel, and has absolutely no reservations about being malicious and sadistic. She wont pull these out willy-nilly, however: there has to be something in it for her. She's very manipulative, and likes to work through manipulation and stealth rather then doing things out in the open: she likes subtle things, and finds excessively obvious things offensive to her sensibilities.
She's a very smart being— well educated before the disaster, and capable of quick learning and high feats of logic. She amuses herself with proofs on a number of levels, and enjoys a good conversation more then good food. She's fairly charismatic, though pinpointing the exact source of the charisma can be difficult: is it that hint of potentially dangerousness that attracts people, or is it her intelligence and the way she talks?
Despite all of this, she isn't inherently a bad person. she isn't a good person either: she is neutral. Everything she does is carefully considered. Though she has no reservations about being cruel and sadistic, she has no reservations about being loyal or nice, either— it's just a matter of establishing those loyalties. She keeps the world at arm's length, so getting close enough to establish those initial ties are difficult.
Ikarus is conventionally trained in hand-weaponry: daggers, and swords. It's unclear where she got this training, it was after the disasters and her mutation, but she's fairly skilled with both. She keeps a dagger clear on her belt at all times, and she usually has two more hidden on her person at any time: usually in her boot and strapped beneath her shirt, but she occasionally switches up their location for the fun of it.
Life to her is really just a chess game: every move is to be carefully considered for it's worth in strategy.
Mutation
Permanent catlike features- NOT Shapeshifting. She's covered in black fur, and though she's bipedal and her body is human shaped, she's a bit bigger then your average human, with claw-tipped hands and feet. She has a tail, and her ears are placed a few inches higher on her head then they would be for a human, and are large and pointed, like a cats, though they s till keep some residual humanlike appearance to them. Her nose is flatter, too, and the bottom has a different texture, similar to but not exactly like a cat. Her eyes are also those of a cat. this results in her being able to hear and smell better, and see better in the dark. She is also very good at stealth, but this is more of a practiced ability enhanced by her better grace and balance and quiet movement afforded by the catlike body.
History
Ikarus really isn't interested in letting anyone know about her history, and doesn't think about it herself, personally. She was born into the harper hall, her mother was a harper and her father was a bluerider. She spent a lot of time at the hall, and at the weyr- her mother thought it important for her to see a variety of cultures. She also spent a few turns of her childhood living at holds: her mother was one of those harpers who gets assigned to different locations regularly, primarily out of choice.
She began to pursue an apprenticeship with the harpers as soon as she was old enough, but didn't get terribly far into it before the disasters struck, and everything changed. Most of her family was killed in the aftermath, and those who remained of the people she cared about succumbed to the illness that caused her mutations. She was lucky to survive, and permanently marked with cat-features, as a result.
Since then, it's unclear what she's been doing to survive, but whatever it is it's been successful: she's still alive, and even thriving.
