Consise/Basics

Name: Eridrae
Nickname: Eri, Drae

Position: Greyrider
Past Ranks: Igen Wingrider, Weyrling, Candidate, Apprentice Harper, Weyrbrat

Gender: Female
Sexuality*: Pan

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

About 5'4", Eridrae could be considered short, but her presence makes her seem slightly larger then that. She holds herself proudly, and her body is curvy: if anything, she's a bit plump, but the soft fat covers the sort of muscle that come of riding a dragon. Her skin is a creamy tan, and her hair is a deep auburn-brown shade. She typically ties it back in a ponytail, but otherwise keeps it long, to her shoulderblades. Her eyes are a bright gray, and her soft features are usually contorted in friendly expressions, frequently smiling.

Personality

Fools rush in, and Eridrae happily plays the fool. She's been given to rash decisions her whole life, and so far, it actually hasn't served her too terribly.

Depending on who you're asking, Eridrae is either Idealistic or tragically naive. Realistically, it's probably a mix of both. For her, most clouds have a silver lining- she'd probably be looking for the good even in her darkest hour. She generally believes that good things will happen to good people, and she conducts herself as if this is always the case. Even if things are really bad for a long time, she believes that it'll probably get better— after all, pain is temporary. It has to be, or otherwise we wouldn't heal, right?

Slightly abstract, she can occasionally be hard to understand, her head is always in the clouds so much. She naturally makes rather intuitive leaps that other people might not make— or rather, she'll make more of them, faster, to connect things that other people might think of as unrelated. She tends to talk very fast, and the logic she uses to justify her actions doesn't always seem grounded in reality— it's the same general sort of thing as her abstract connections.

She's very creative, especially when it comes to stories— she adores children, because their naive innocence makes them the best audiences to her stories. Their experiential take to life is also something she finds inspiring— it's something she's never lost. The world is still full of wonder for her, and that's part of why she makes a great storyteller.

Curious about the world, Eridrae thinks her best chance at figuring things out is exploration. How can you know things if someone's just told you how they are? You have to experience them for yourself. Inquisitive, she occasionally forgets what tact is, when asking questions— but she is emotionally aware, so while she may not initially notice when she's stumbled on a sore spot, she'll figure it out quickly, and be sincerely apologetic.

She's very friendly— the concept of 'stranger' hasn't entirely occurred to her, it seems. She doesn't really get offended so much as upset. You can count on Eridrae to be honest, and sincere in both word and emotion- especially emotion. She feels, a lot, and she doesn't hide any of it.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths: Friendly, gregarious, and good at making people feel welcome. Weaknesses: She has trouble focusing, and would rather be doing her own thing.
Likes and Dislikes:
Likes: Friendly people, children, and telling stories. Dislikes: Having too much work to do and getting told off by figures of authority.
Points of Interest:
Though she seems the opposite of Nalath, she and the gray work well together: Their personalities are complementary, rather then clashing.

History

Always having a tendency to be a rash and exploratory child, the fact that Eridrae grew up in the open atmosphere of a weyr probably didn't help anything. She's the daughter of a greenrider and her regular weyrmate, and grew up fostered in the lower caverns of Igen Weyr. She had regular contact with both of her parents, and their dragons, and decided early that she liked the big beasts.
Her talent at storytelling came out early in her lifetime, and it caused the nannies and her foster mother to remark that she'd make an excellent harper. Besides that, she excelled in their lessons, learning quickly— so at ten, she decided to walk a different path from her parents, and be a harper. She was sent to the most local harper hall.
That went well, initially: incredibly creative, the harpers were a crowd who appreciated that, and nurtured that. Her storytelling wasn't simply a brief novelty, with the harpers— it was encouraged. She adored that, and had a great time, the first few years of apprenticeship, despite the chores and whatnot.
Five years into her harper apprenticeship, however, and she wasn't feeling quite as pleased about it— she wasn't dissatisfied, exactly, but she was kind of bored. Apprenticeship is a long process, which requires hard work, and while she isn't completely horrible at the hard-work thing, she's not very patient.
On her fifteenth turnday, she decided that the probable 4+ more years she had of apprenticeship were far too long, and she left. There wasn't really any more planning then that: she simply left at the next trader caravan, hitching a ride with them to Igen Hold.
She wasn't entirely aware that there had been a clutch on the sands, but her mother- having heard of her unwarned defection from the harper hall- came to the hold to visit her, and express her mild displeasure at the rashness of Eridrae's decision. As it turned out, this visit wasn't entirely a lecture: her mother's green declared Eridrae a good choice for candidacy, and the offer was officially extended.
Eridrae had occasionally given the idea some thought, but never too seriously. It took her all of an abrupt five minutes to decide that yes, she would stand as a candidate- it wasn't as if she had anything to loose, and candidacy was shorter then apprenticeship, even if it was a heavier workload, sometimes.
As it turned out, Eridrae was successful choice- when the eggs finally hatched on Igen's sands, a gray stumbled towards her, making her choice quickly. They seemed an unlikely pair, but the bond was forged, and thus started an entirely new, wonderful chapter in Eridrae's life.
11 years passed relatively easily: Eridrae had some trouble settling into the regularity of drills, but it was quickly discovered that she made a good sweeprider— enough adventure in sweepriding to keep her easily-distracted mind occupied. Igen grew more and more crowded with successive clutches, and transferring grew a bit more encouraged, around the same time as Eridrae started lamenting to Nalath that she wanted a chance in scenery— but a slight change of scenery, nothing too massive. They applied for a transfer to Vaoia, and it was accepted— and that's where they start.

Dragon

Nalath
Gray F Dragon
For her color, Nalath is relatively small: she's only 32' long, and her build is light and delicate. Her wings are juuust a bit large for her body, which makes her look rather awkward, and made learning to fly a bit difficult- but it has translated to great speed and agility, as she can catch winds and thermals very easily with just a twist of her wings. Her hide is a creamy rose-gray almost uniformly. It's broken by a deeper, more vibrant shade of rose-toned grey, slipping off her eyes and down the sides of her neck, tail and torso, mirrored on the other sides. The same darker rose-gray appears on all of her feet, running up the back of her legs to disappear before her legs meet her torso.
