Consise/Basics

Name: Dumose
Nickname:

Position: Candidate
Past Ranks: Trader

Gender: Male
Sexuality*: Pan

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Strongly built, Dumose is pretty imposing, and not just because of the way he holds himself. He's muscular, product of growing up into a family that regularly asked him to lift and carry heavy objects. His skin is a deep bronze shade, strengthened by the sun if he's had hours of exposure. His hair is thin and strait, and usually shorn messily short. It's a deep brown, naturally, but the sun will occasionally bring out natural highlights across the tops. His eyes are a cool green tone, and his features delicate— he has full, wide lips that make or break his face. A smile will instantly soften his features, while a frown will create a mask of severity.

Personality

There are many levels of ambition, and Dumose strikes highly on the scale. He comes in just under 'cuthroat'- he has enough of a moral mind not to screw someone over to further himself, and frowns on the act of doing that as a whole— but otherwise, he'll go to great, great lengths to achieve his ends.

He desperately wants to make a name for himself— he grew up the middle son in a huge family of traders, and recognition of any kind was rarely given. He wants to be recognized, he wants to have achievements worthy of rewards. He wants people to know his name. It's not fame he seeks, but respect. He may eventually want rank- the fact that he could go no further with his family rankled him.

He's very tenacious; when he gets an idea in his head, he doesn't let it go. Arguments with him can be trying- he doesn't like to be wrong, and he's as stubborn as a mule. There's no talking him out of things. It can be a major boon: he's incredibly driven and motivated, and will get the job done— he just won't do anything else until the job is done, and the way he chooses to do it might not make the most sense. He can be a bit brash about things.

He's very strong, though he's also fairly withdrawn- he frequently comes across as a sullen person, which isn't very far from being true. He does tend to brood, dwelling on things that bother him and trying to attack them from all angles. He comes from a long line of cunning survivors, and can apply the wit that his family used for turns to get through the hardships on the road to his own problems.

He's somewhat possessive— despite his affect, he craves attachment and friendship, and as such, when he manages to make an attachment, he can grow jealous of that attachment's affections for others. He doesn't allow it to get crazy, but he will brood and sulk about it. He's also very protective. There's an ideological component to that: he'll protect the weaker man, on principle, because the weaker man cannot protect himself. He is personally protective as well: if one of his people need protection, he will do everything in his power to keep them safe, and Faranth spare anyone who hurts one of his loved ones.

He's a bit of a closet romantic, and is given to pine. He's also surprisingly fond of cats, and has an interest in the regils and the major felines, though his ambitions reside with the dragons.

Ambitious, strong, stubborn, driven, sullen, long-line-of-survivors, wants to get his name out there, experiential, protective, possessive, means well.

History

Dumose comes from a long line of traders, who've been working the route for ages. Their business takes them primarily through Igen, which is something of their base of operations, but they branch out northwards into the telgar area once every few turns- they have some stationary family there, and some trading routes.
That's what Dumose was born into: a life of traveling and constant activity. Trading takes a special sort- people who can survive the hardships of the road. He certainly was bred out of hardy stock, and the traits have passed on- his strength comes as much from his huge family as it does from the lifestyle of work he's had from a young age.
Change was basically his status quo- he had as normal a childhood as one could expect in such circumstances. He was the middle son, and was constantly fighting for recognition- something hard-earned in his family. He had no hopes of becoming caravan leader, as he was far too long off in the line of succession, and his future really only held much of the same— being an important but ultimately low-ranked member of the caravan for the rest of his life. His lack of opportunities for advancement rankled him, but there was nothing he could do.
Or so he thought. Shortly after his 17th birthday, he was up in the telgar region with his family. They were in Telgar hold proper, when the searchrider came: there was a clutch on Telgar's sands. Though he wasn't actually a holder, the dragon nonetheless focused on him, insisting he would make a good candidate.
It took him only a few moments to accept— he'd have to leave his family, of course, but it was finally a chance to have some sort of position outside of runner-driver or merchandise-hauler.
He failed to impress on that hatching, and the hatching directly after it, but he refuses to be deterred— at the weyr, he sees more opportunities available to him then there ever were at the caravan, even if he has to give up a life of mobility to have access to them.
