Ditani's Beryth

Blue Beryth

The hatchling's hide was a clear blue, reminiscent of shallow sea waters in the mid-day sun. … While the rest of his body was the clear, perhaps beautiful ocean blue, his wings were dark and swirled with black. They were the deep ocean during a storm, the dangerous side of the sea.

Near the edge of the clutch a little egg shivered. It was an average egg, many would say. Not too small, but certainly not the largest. It's coloration was an eye please mix of soft greens and deep blues, which, added to it's size, led many to believe it held one of these colors. To those nearest, a soft sound began to grow from within the egg as it shifted furiously. A scrapping, scratching sound, which some would remark was eerily similar to the sound of the rain just beyond the Sand's entrance.

There was a lull in the crowd then, the first egg had hatched, and it had been spectacular, but there were so many to go. The shivering of the small egg seemed to slow, even as the crowd's anticipation grew. From within the sound of rain however increased. Some candidates near-by scooted away, wary with stories of exploding eggs and sharp shards in their minds. Just as the crowd, and the candidates began to wonder if another egg was to hatch before the mark was up, the shivering eggs stopped moving.

All sound had ceased as well, bringing a few sighs of relief, only to have them swallows in gasp as the egg suddenly seemed to melt away. Starting from the top the shell nearly disintegrated, as if it's structure had been eaten away from the inside. Indeed, when some of the largest pieces, few more than an inch in diameter, were examined, claw marks could be seen, and the shell was much thinner than it would have been originally.

His shell gone, the blue hatchling was now bared to the world. At first, he was as still as his egg had been in it's final moment. And then, with a slow blink of his hunger stained eyes, he crouched, inspecting the remains of his egg. He blinked once more, then turned his attention to the stands, and the other eggs still wobbling on the Sands. The hatchling's hide was a clear blue, reminiscent of shallow sea waters in the mid-day sun. His wings were held tightly to his side as he took in the scene around him.

His sibling had reached his rider, and was even now partaking of his first meal. The hatchling shifted his head, as if nodding sharply, approving of this observation. Then, as if reaching a final decision, he moved to stand. Unfortunately, as he did he over balanced, and would have fallen face first into the sand at his feet if not for his wing wrenching open to counter balance him. As they did, they drew a gasp. While the rest of his body was the clear, perhaps beautiful ocean blue, his wings were dark and swirled with black. They were the deep ocean during a storm, the dangerous side of the sea.

As he once again found his balance, he gave a snort. He shook his head, before once again setting out. He walked serenely around his siblings' eggs, looking them over, inspecting them apparently. With a final sniff of approval, he turned back to the candidates. Time for his first real decision. He could feel the expectations of the crowd. His color decreed he should be attracted to the males, huddling together slightly in insecurity. No, they weren't for him. He turned to the females, many of which were focused almost entirely on the shimmering gold egg. Those were of no concern of his, instead it was those who were willing to give other hatchlings a chance to choose them that he turned to.

He walked steadily towards them, unconcerned when some shied away. Like those concerned only with the queen egg, they were of no concern of his. No, he could tell now who was calling to him. Ditani, I am Beryth. We should go get something for me to eat now.

Rider : Ditani
Base personality : Obsessive, pessimistic, not easily excited, logical, forward, assertive, blunt, observant, decisive, serene.
Text colour : #00d0ff
Creation notes : Beryth….is…just very serious, but he was immensely fun to write. He flowed rather easily out of my fingers once I'd gotten him started. He's only the second baby I've written…so…I'm glad he's come out so well, at least I think he has. X3
Also, an added note, the hatchling image was done by Draice…because Zirra failed at figuring out which pixels were the babies. OTL
