Consise/Basics
Name: Delucia
Nickname: Delu, Luc
Position: wherling
Past Ranks: wherhandler, wherlost, wher candidate
Gender: Female
Sexuality*: Pan
- Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.
Looks
Hair color: Red
Eye color: left blue, right green
Build: Light, small, lithe
Delu is a strange little girl. She is small in build and in height, only 5' in total. She's muscled, but it's the light kind of muscle that's built from walking and running, not the special conditioned muscle that comes of specific training. Her features are long and pointed, which gives her an odd overall appearance— she's more strange-looking than beautiful. Her skin is a dark creamy tan. Her hair is bright red— an odd mark, but not as odd as her round eyes, which are two different colors. The left is bright blue, and the right is green.
Personality
Likes: Kittens, klah, stars, traveling by night, and whers
Dislikes: tunnelsnakes, poisonous tunnelsnake, the poisonous tunnelsnake who killed Delsk, people who yell, cruelty
Fears: Loosing more loved ones, tunnelsnakes
Goals: Nurture those around her, survive
Quirks Has a tendency to mewl at her cat when nobody's looking, and hold conversations in common when they are.
You know, except for the tendency towards being noctournal, Delucia is really not the sort of person you'd ordinarily pin for the whers.
She's a sweetheart, and a genuine girl.
Delu is naive and innocent. The innocence is a trait that is probably around to stay, whether for ill or for good. It's an atmosphere that clings to her; the world is new and wonderful and amazing, even when it's not. Even if she's seen the worst it has to offer, there will still be a shred of her that will cling to this innocence, and see the world as basically a good place, full of amazing things to experience and touch and revel in. This is a sexual, tactile innocence— a sense of permanent wonder, which is increased and expressed through things like physical pleasure or other things which are not always considered chaste. Her nativity is both sexual and platonic. She might miss sexual overtones in a conversation, fail to note someone flirting with her, or miss a euphemism here or there, yes, but that is not the brunt of her nativity. It comes down to her lack of realism with regards to the world's cruelty. Where both of her companions, Jackyll and Akadii, know how nasty the world can be and expect the worst, she expects the best no matter how many times she has been bitten. The cruel nature of the world is beyond her- it's all specific incidents that don't mean anything. For her, the world, life and humanity are all basically good things, and that will get her bitten more then anything.
She is emotional. Delucia feels great joy, but she also feels great pain. Loss effects her terribly, and she will pine after Delsk for turns, and possibly for the rest of her life, no matter what happens. she is a great respecter of both memory and tradition, and will maintain a small little sacred area— not with any intention, mind you, this is all subconsious— with which to honor her lost. It will probably be something like a small section of her shelf where she stores a small image of Delsk and Delsk's old collar, but it will be kept clean and looked after, because Delu's world is one that speaks in symbols and feeling.
Despite everything, Delu has an unfettered optimism. She thinks good things are on the horizon. No matter how many bad things are happening, no matter how much she hurts, she knows good things will come to her. She is friendly and surprisingly capable at surviving, both physically and emotionally. Indeed, she perseveres in the face of obsticals, carried through by both optimism and curiosity. If she succumbed, she would never see what was coming next. When cruel things happen, she plows through it— crying and feeling, of course, but she nevertheless comes out on the other side, mostly in tact. She will wear her scars, emotional and physical, with some amount of pride— they are proof of her survival.
Delucia likes people. She adores them. She is empathetic, and can sympathize with people's pain and provide a listening ear and a sympathetic shoulder. She's also affectionate, and likes to best show her affection physically. Hugs? YES! Snuggles, sure! Sex, why not? This includes platonic relationships too, though she won't sleep with them until she knows both parties are cool with it, single, and are aware that it is platonic. She is also genuine— this girl couldn't tell a lie if she tried. It's as if the idea of being subversive hasn't occurred to her; why would she do something like that?
Delucia is also relatively good at bringing out the best in people. She is nurturing, and she likes caring for things and providing for them, so that they can be the best that they can be. She loves animals, especially small animals— that Akadii gave her a kitten will be one of the best things in the world to her. She is sweet, caring and loving.
And on the subject of kittens, Delucia is about as threatening as one. Violence is also an option that never really occurred to her— if it was ever required, Delsk or Jackyll protected her from these cruelties. She's adorable, and adorable things don't really send people running out of fear.
Not that she can't hold her own. She is surprisingly good in an argument. If certain buttons are pushed, Delucia can be both stubborn and incredibly defiant. It's part of why she can plow through averse situations with little more then scars. She's quite willful when she wants to be.
Delucia is patient— if someone's having an issue, she will ignore mistakes and work with them until they get it, even if that's hours. If something needs time to happen, she sees no problem with paying that time— another option doesn't occur to her. She is curious and adventurous— the world is fascinating, and she wants to see as much of it as she can! that's why she agreed with Jackyll in the first place.
Delucia is imaginative. She's somewhat a daydreamer, and her dreams at night inspire her. She can weave together stories and often does, mostly in her head. It's a great delight to get to share those stories, though she feels too embarrassed to do it in front of adults most of the time. Part of why she loves kids is because she usually can tell those stories to them.
Delucia is somewhat vain. She likes to look good. She knows this isn't always possible, and it's certainly not end-all-be-all. If she's out on the trail, of course she'll go a few days without bathing and get sticks in her hair. If she has the resources, however, to keep herself nice and neat, she will. She likes looking good, and she likes attention. She doesn't usually have access to makeup, but she likes using it on special occasions, and she adores dancing.
Del is something of a romantic. She wants, eventually, one of those star-struck romances and maybe even kids! she likes kids, partially because she gets them and is fascinated by the world much as they are.
History
Delucia was born at the weyr.
Her father was a dragonrider, and her mother, strangely enough, was a wherhandler. They had a great relationship, despite the odds, which became the basis for which Delucia saw relationships in general. Del has about 3 younger siblings.
When Del was about 14, her mum became pregnant with a fifth child, but this one was to end badly. There was something wrong with the birth, and it ended up killing both mother and child— leaving Delucia's siblings and father distraught. The siblings were already being mostly-raised by the people of the lower cavern (a dragonrider's life was too busy), but they were struck hard, and their father struck hardest— he slipped into alcohol, and never really recovered.
Something had to be done about her mother's wher, however. The brown was upset, but he couldn't go handerless-less— someone would have to take him. Being the oldest and already quite close to him, Delucia stepped forward, and her mother's wher became Delsk. The bond was quite easy, since, well, Delsk had known Delucia her whole life.
Things after that were a game of survival. The coming of the disasters and thread meant nothing could ever be the same. Her father died in the first threadfall, scored badly across the wings. To hear it told, he and his green barely managed to make it between before hitting the ground, and they never reemerged. This was also a heavy loss, but not one entirely unexpected: he had been half-alive ever since Del's mother died.
From there it was survival. Holds were being destroyed, and people were beginning to flow into the weyr: refugees, survivors. Everybody. Del did what she could, but that wasn't much— she had no healer training and wherhandlers weren't needed just yet.
But they would be, shortly. Wherhandlers were beginning to move away from the weyr. With teh size and strength of their beasts, they could survive in the wilderness where others less protected could not. Soon enough, Del herself was approached by someone who wished to travel with her— a mercenary, with good protective skills. Delu agreed, on the condition that they find a healer, and soon enough akadii was found and the small party set off.
It was strange to be away from the weyr, but she got used to it and came to enjoy wandering around in the wilderness. It was great— even the dangerous moments weren't that bad, because they survived. Only recently did it sour— her Delsk was bitten by a poisonous tunnelsnake one threadfall where they crouched away.
Akadii did what he could, but they had to wait for thread to finish falling before they could get to the weyr and to safety. His meds kept the poison from killing Delsk immediately, but as it was, they barely managed to get back to skyguard, and when they did, the wher was more grey then brown. They went strait for the infirmary, where a few hours later, Delsk slipped into a coma he would not rise from.
It took him three days to die, and Delu sat by him the entire time. When he did succumb to the poison, she was distrought: Delsk was her wher, AND he was her mother's wher, the last piece of Delucia's mother she had left. Now she has no wher and seemingly no direction.
