Consise/Basics

Name: As'tor
Nickname: Ass

Position: Searchrider, dragonrider
Past Ranks: Holdless, Weyrling, Candidate, Rider

Gender: Male
Sexuality*: Pansexual

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

A tall man, As'tor is 6'4". He is aging more quickly then he has a right to, thanks to the stressful lifestyle he leads. His hair is graying quickly— naturally, it's a dark sandy shade, but now there are fewer patches of that color in his hair then grey. He keeps it shoulder length, and frequently tied back in a pony tail. His gray eyes are piercing. His nose is naturally aquiline, and has been broken before— it now heals crooked. The man is covered in scars— burn scars on his shoulder and arm, from an accident in his youth.

Personality

A Survivor. A stubborn, resilient survivor, much like a gnarled old tree in a forest. That's what As'tor is.

Strong and sharp, the scars on As'tor's body are a reflection of this resilience. This is a man who meets challenges, who responds to great blows with a roar, who will not be subdued until he is dead. He is fueled by an inexpressible fire, though it does not blaze brightly as do the fires of others- his fire smolders, dull embers and thick heat that push him forward through the trials of life. after a life spent being held down, being searched by force, and then searching by force, he is stubborn: he will not be quelled or held down as he once was, and, indeed, some of his actions and mannerisms now seem to directly spite his past meekness. He won't throw a fit and proclaim things- he's not that obvious. He will, however, work endlessly to ensure the downfall of those things which he does not like. His past also gives him a deep paranoia, and he rarely trusts anyone, occasionally going as far to accuse them of subversive actions.

As'tor is defensive and quick to act. Mentally, verbally, physically- his reactions are almost as fast as turning on a dime. Something of a sentinel, he trusts nothing and is constantly on the lookout, ever vigilant, looking for the next thing that is out to wound him. He's protective, especially of those few that he cares about, or the candidates he searches (who are, by extension, his.) He can be downright vicious, physically and verbally, if you cross him. Blunt and forward, he won't mince words even if he likes you: affection he does have for people, but it won't save you from his sharp tongue. He's a sarcastic bastard, too, and will mock ideas he considers stupid with harshness. He's forward, will approach anyone he feels like it, though you can't really call him friendly- at most he's reserved to strangers.

As'tor has a very, very deep sense of right and wrong. IT's a humanitarian sense- the human, the individual, and the sanctity of the individual and it's freedoms freedoms- all of those things are incredibly important to him. That said, he is not an idealist- he is more of a pessimist by nature. He expects the worst of people and situations, even his close friends. He knows he will never fix the world's problems, and that's not why he chooses his forms of rebellion, why he works so hard to preserve those morals he holds dear. He does these things because to not do so would be worse then actively working against them. He will do what he feels is right, but he won't hold any illusions about it. He is a just and fair man- occasionally cruel in his fairness.

As'tor revels in danger. He is a risktaker, and will jump strait into the fire if the reason is strong enough. He never feels so alive as he does when he's pulling some great stunt in the north, outracing dragon's fire. Doing what he feels is right and needed. Bravery is second nature. He is not, however, flippant about it- rather, he's incredibly serious. Life and danger is no laughing matter, and it annoys him how lighthearted his daughter, Niyfe, is about such things. He's gruff and impatient, especially under stress— he hates those moments before a big event or fight, where you're readying yourself and waiting to act. He deals with them because strategically, he must. As'tor is capable of compassion, though few will see it: only his family and inner circle of friends. Everyone else will be watched warily and kept at a distance.

History

As'tor started life hard, and it continued such for a long time. He was born to a poor family, with an alcoholic father, in the holds. His mother had died in childbirth. Having an alcoholic father really didn't say much good about a person, and in the holds it made one next to useless. He never had a chance to work into much of the social strata, as he was a step above holdless by birth anyway.

He ended up demoting himself in his youth, anyway. The rebellion that would've raised it's acne-covered head in his teens waited only till the age of 8 to start rankling his father, who refused to accept backtalk of any kind. After an impressive series of fights that lasted about a month, As'tor was forcibly ejected from his home, and would not see his father again.

He spent time being a holdless vagrant. He stole for his food, or begged— stealing was usually more effective, or at least less shameful. When one begged, one had to be seen and pitied by everyone, and he hated being pitied. He also had hte same defiance that had reared it's head in his childhood, and that made him no friends— but on the streets, fights were conducted with knives and fists, instead of primarily words. His first trial by blood ended with a nasty scar, as did several of his next ones.

He took up drinking heavily a few years into his tenure on the streets, and looked in every way to become a clone of his father within a slightly lower social strata. That was, until he challenged the wrong person to a fight.

As it turns out, greenriders don't fight— and challenging them while their dragons are present is a bad idea. It was dark, and the green was dark- he hadn't seen her until after he'd cursed at the rider for whatever arbitrary reason he'd chosen at the time. She'd lowered her head to him, growled to scare him off, but the next action was surprising: she informed him that he would make a decent candidate.

Well that was.. well. Wow. Odd.

So, off guard and drunk, he agreed, and wound up the next morning in the weyr with very little memory of how he'd gotten there. When the hatching came around, he managed to Impress a green, and slowly adjusted to the tamer…ish lifestyle of the weyr. The risktaking never stopped, though, and Dazindivith and As'tor can be expected to show up in places it's dangerous for them to be, if there is some good reason for htem to be there.

Dragon

Dazindivith
Green F Dragon
To call Dazindivith dark is an understatement. If she were any darker, she might have to be in a class of her own. The color of a lush green forest at midnight when Pern’s twin moons both offer no shine, Dazindivith seems like a shadow of a dragon, even as she moves. Lithe, graceful on ground and in air, this sinuous beauty seems to hold no fat at all on her body, being rather bony. However, Dazindivith eats like a normal Green would and the only suspect that could steal the fat off of her bones comes naturally for her, even in her old age: high metabolism. Because metabolism does not affect muscle mass most of the time, Dazindivith’s muscles are not affected, and, indeed, when she moves, one can see her leg muscles move under her hide.

At 19.75 feet long, Dazindivith’s size just merges with the larger half of Green dragons. Because of her fatless silhouette, however, the dark green dragon looks much longer than she actually is. Her wings are proportionate to her body but the mainsail of her right wing was burned in the same fire that burned her rider and it Healed together in a fashion that leaves her slightly less quick as she was in the air in her youth before the accident. The burn also travels down her butt, stopping an inch or two after her tail begins.

Dazindivith is not just one uniform dark green color. All four of her paws are a brighter green color which slowly fades into her main coloring. They each fade away at different points and look much like mix-matched socks in that respect. Light green also dapples her underbelly, starting just under her chin and continuing until the beginning of her tail, where the dappling just ends. The same dappling can be seen on her wings, at the ends; each time, the dappling fades away the further into the body (or wings) it reaches.
