Consise/Basics

Name: Corvae
Nickname: Corv

Position: Candidate
Past Ranks: Glasscraftbrat, Glasscraft apprentice

Gender: Female
Sexuality*: Pan

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Corvi is a slight woman, only about 5'2" amd a tendency to slouch which makes her even shorter. Her frame is thin and wirey, of the sort that might put one in mind of a minor metabolic disorder that will slow with age. Her hair is black, and she keeps it to about her ears in length, frequently tousled and occasionally with clay in it— anything longer then that would get set afire working with glass. Her skin is pale, and her eyes, which are large and sharp, are an even gray tone.

Personality

Corvi doesn't mean to, but she's mildly offputting.

She has a lot of trouble with communication. For one, she's barely literate. This is largely because the symbols of the words almost refuse to have meaning for her… it's like they won't sit still in her mind, as she describes it. She has less trouble with speaking, but she'll loose words with some frequency. For another, she makes incredibly strange connections out of the air. It's not sure how she gets from point a to point b logically, but suddenly the trees have become dark gates and she's afraid to go outside or something bad will happen. That sort of thing. It's a natural talent for metaphor taken too literally and done too quickly— people will have trouble catching up and seeing what she means.

Her relationship to reality is a bit dubious, as well. She's doing her thing, that much is for sure, but the world has more connections for her then it seems to have for most. Mildly synesthetic, to her, things like letters and numbers have personality, and colors have tastes, and all of this is concepts she just can't find the words to describe. It's so very frustrating, and it makes her shut down somewhat when it comes to being social— she learned early on that people didn't get what she was saying, and frequently teased her for it. Why now? She's being slowly brought out of her shell— candidacy will do that to a person.

Her social graces are a bit odd, having never really developed properly— she has a tendency to slouch and stare at people without blinking, which many find unnerving. She doesn't trust very easily— even her friends are prone to experiencing her occasional paranoid accusation.

That said, she's not incompetent or nonfunctional— very far from it. While she's given to be twitchy and hard to communicate with, she can do what she needs to. For instance, in the glasscraft, she can mix the mixture to make the glass and then blow it or shape it into work as good as any apprentice, and frequently better. She has trouble telling you how, and she can't write down the formulas for the mixture, but she can do it just fine. She has a great memory and is very intelligent, if given to strange leaps of logic and odd connections. She's very gifted artistically, though prone to making abnormal things— her vases, for instance, are typically longer in style and have odd designs on them. She's most skilled with glass and ceramic, as that's what she's trained up in, but her sketches aren't bad, either— after all, she does a sketch before she does a ceramic piece.

History

Corvi's history is not terribly unusual. Born into the glass-craft, it's what she's known from an early age— though she could never do more then watch and clean up fairly safe things until she was 10. When she was 10, her natural interest was provoked by her family and the crafters turning out such beautiful work, so she, too, joined the apprentices.

She did not make fast friends with anyone, and was frequently teased, but when it came to making glass, she was something of an idiot savant. she couldn't really tell you how she did it, but she knew the motions— a written exam she would fail every time, but when she gets in front of the tools, she can work glass fairly well. It's the communication that gets her. For this reason, she was progressing through her apprenticeship slowly, held back by certain hurdles she couldn't or refused to pass.

A turn ago, she was sent on a trading mission to a gather, to get some minerals for the more rare varieties of glass. While on the way, she met a dragonrider leaving the gather— a greenrider, whose beast told her she would make an appropriate candidate. Frustrated with the crafthall, she took his offer.

She's been left standing at every clutch since, which is beginning to frustrate her as well.. but the alternative is to go back to the hall, and have more issues, so what can you do.
