Caexon looks weird for a number of reasons. He's about 6'2" and stick thin: the high metabolism of a young man hasn't faded out for him yet, but it promises to with age. He has little muscle mass- it's all awkward, lanky features that look a little too long for him. His hair he keeps short and otherwise ignores completely: it's usually messy and unkempt. It's a sandy brown color, bordering in dirty blonde, but just a shade dark. His skin would be a uniform creamy tan, except for an odd genetic condition known as Vitiligo. Patches of white skin patch him symmetrically, crawling unevenly up his body. He's especially careful in sun because of these— they increase with sunburns and stress or illness. At the moment, they're around his palms and wrists, feet and ankles, lips, eyes, and there's some patching along his back, neck, and very slight patching on his chest.

Personality

Likes: Explosions, bright colors, what happens when you drop certain shavings or solutions of metal in a flame (Especially copper), Acidic compounds and chemistry.
Dislikes: Reading, being bored, not being allowed to light things on fire, chickens and rainy days.
Fears: The vitiligo taking over his entire body, going blind
Goals: Not get sunburned again ever (Good luck), find a way to be allowed to play with his chemistry experiments in the weyr.
Quirks His interest in smithery is more an interest in explosions and fire that he's harnessing to good use, He tends to grin creepily a lot.

Description
The biggest observation that people can attack to Caexon is that he's weird. He also really, really likes his job.

The man has a very strange enthusiasm. This specifically applies to anything he really likes, though in practice it's most frequently applied to chemistry and smithery in general. It's a sort of quiet, hyper enthusiasm— a motivation to move forward, combined with something like caffeine-induced jitters. He likes it, he's motivated to be around it and to do things with it.. people, activities, it matters not. Usually this sticks to activities however: you know. Setting things on fire, blowing things up.

He's always slightly manic. He talks a little bit fast, his eyes are a little bit wide, and when he's active, he's really active— bustling around, doing a lot of things at once, etc. If he's sitting still, he's either crashed because he's used up too much energy, or he's fidgeting because he hasn't used enough. He really hates being bored and having nothing to do- and conversely, he also hates doing busy work, work for the sake of work, or things he doesn't WANT to do. He wants to be productive, and he wants to be productive in ways he finds mentally enriching.

A lot of people find Caexon unnerving, partially due to this manic streak, and partially because he almost always is grinning. This, combined with a tendency to slouch and eyes that are perpetually wide with interest, makes him come off a bit odd upon first meeting. Also slightly unnerving is the fact that he's forward— he'll talk to anyone, right away, and occasionally he'll seem rather callous with teh sorts of comments he might make. There are some social graces he deliberately ignores, and some he may just have never learned in the first place. He doesn't seem to notice or care how strange some of his habits are. Caexon is somewhat social, though he can survive quite happily on his own if he needs to, and prefers to keep a few close friends at any given time.

Caexon really loves chemistry. a lot. He loves it for it's own, and for it's wonderful clockwork equations that fit together so perfectly, at least in his head. He has an advanced understanding of it and of numerical systems, though it's chemistry, more then any other smith-speciality, that lets him play with fire on purpose. He is a guy, and a teenage guy, at that. He likes taking risks, he likes adrenaline, he's prone to doing the occasionally stupid thing because it seemed like a good idea at the time (he's usually aware of that, and deliberately thinks that's a good reason: it's a freedom of expression and a thrill of life by the horns thing.). He really likes fire, and explosions, and making things explode in fun colors, or burn in fun colors… He adores his lab time— he'll do your standard work, like maintaining flamethrowers, but what he really adores is the lab time that lets him play with principles and conduct experiments. His resentment of hte weyr comes from the fact that they are preventing him from doing exactly that.

History

Caexon's history is pretty ordinary.

Always a strange, curious kid, Caexon's primary interests lay in math and the things associated with smithery, rather then a harper's focus on language and art. This was disappointing to his Harper parents, but rather then stifle his urges towards the smithcraft, they encouraged him.

He learned pretty quickly that the smith craft was not only a place where numbers were frequently used, but a place that used fire and interesitng chemicals to their advantage. At the age of 8, he wasn't quite aware that the smithcraft covered Chemistry, but it did pique his interest enough that when he became an apprentice at 10 and learned the basics of that science, he was interested in life.

Caexon's interest in chemistry did and does go beyond the blowing-things-up aspect, but that's what got him interested, and that's still his favorite part. He's the kind that drops copper shavings into his fire in his spare time, just because he likes the color. A lot of what he does involves acid, being as this is the primary application of chemistry on pern: Flamethrower tanks and HNO3 tanks and that ilk.

Things were progressing fairly normally for Caexon— he was stationed at Western, and progressing through his apprenticeship quickly, due to his thirst for anything smith-related. Unfortunately, the ease of the times would not last— First was a tidal wave, that wiped out neighboring Starfall. Disasters soon hit western, destroying the hold and turning everyone into refugees. He was swept up in this and joined those who went to the weyr, seeking refuge: there wasn't really an alternative.

This was a bit of a bummer for him: in addition to the emotional havoc of having to leave everything behind in the destruction, he couldn't seek solace in labwork or anything of that nature. The weyr lacked the facilities, and even if it did, it wasn't nearly so open towards the sort of entropic exploration as the smith crafthall was. Most of what he's been assigned to since is flamethrower maintainence, which is a job he found boring before, and now he finds fairly unbearable. He still does what he can, but he's looking for a change of venue— and his mind has turned towards Pern's bondable creatures, because they spit fire or acid or see in the dark, and are more interesting then maintaining flamethrowers…

Further catching his attention were the beginnings of the rebellion movement. He moves towards this, eventually going to their ranks entirely.
