- Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.
Looks
At 5'4", Audrey is not particularly tall, and her light frame does not give her the impression of being so. She's rather slim, if anything, with a square shaped face and a somewhat delicate build. Her skin is tanned from exposure to the sun, though originally it's rather pale, as evidenced by the lines of paler skin where her shirt sleeves usually are. Her hair is dark brown, and is short, no longer than to her ears at it's longest. She doesn't particularly care about it's style-it's usually choppily cut and mused about. Her eyes are almond shaped and bright green.
Audrey tends to wear form-fitting clothes when she's not at work. Working requires scrubs or other easy-to-clean, durable practical wear. She has no jewelry of her own. She's fond of wearing boots whenever possible, simply out of habit.
Personality
Calm, friendly, dedicated, serious, affectionate, social.
Audrey is very much an animal person. This much is clear in her comfort and friendliness around animals— she's confident in her own abilities, and mammalian body-language is second nature to her, having grown up with beasts. It's a product of learning to be calm around creatures that could damage you badly if they get too nervous, and it flavors her interactions with the rest of the world: she's calm, easy-going and confident. She's flexible enough to be able to handle the curve-balls that life throws at her, and can keep her head in a crisis. Horse rip open it's leg? No problem, Audrey knows what to do and she's on it. Even if she's not completely certain what to do, she'll keep her head and start looking for options in the most people-safe and logical way available to her. She knows basic first aid for humans, and considerably more then that for animals.
She's a great student, very dedicated to learning, which she takes seriously. She wants to do well and make a career in the vets- heck, she wants to do more then that, and work with the dragons. She isn't going to do that by goofing off. At first glance, she's serious and one would assume her not to be the sort to be very social- she seems like she'd be more focused with her studies. While that appearance is misleading, she does take her work seriously and assign it a high priority. She'll put her all into any job assigned to her. Being somewhat ambitious, she also goes out of her way to seek higher options: she gets the greatest grades she can in order to pursue higher programs, she does well to impress her teachers and work with more experienced vets, and she's developed a habit of standing at the dragon's hatchings in order to align her career paths to the dragons more closely.
She is not entirely what she appears, however: Audrey is a social beast. Of course, she'll study before she hangs out with her friends, but she won't be reclusive and hide away with her books ALL the time. On the contrary, she enjoys company, and even needs it as a social release: if she stays cooped up and doesn't seek the company of others, she'll get antsy, irritable, and overwhelmed. She enjoys small quiet company, and she enjoys more raucous parties. Audrey prefers to keep a large friend group, and drinks socially.
Audrey is not above the dark sides of social groups and pride, however. She will ostracize people if they prove themselves unsavory in any way to her, and give them the cold shoulder. She won't be malicious or intentionally make thier life difficult, but she'll do her best to keep them from her social group. She's somewhat vain, and tries to look good whenever she can: this also results in a tendency to criticize herself more highly then she would others, both in appearance and work ethic. She is very much a perfectionist, which can create problems when her ideals of perfection don't line up with reality, ESPECIALLY in regards to herself. She's proud, which can lead to arrogance: if she thinks she's better then someone, she'll stop paying attention to them completely.
All of that said, from the onset Audrey is friendly, and to her friends she is loyal. It takes a little bit of work to become close friends with her, but it also takes work to become her enemy- in relation to the rest of the world, she is neutral, and friendly, if a bit distant.
History
Audrey was born seven years before the trip to Pern, and doesn’t remember much about living on earth except for the fact that London was gray and rather crowded. She remembers Pern pretty well, though, in it’s founding years. She had a fairly easy life, as a child. Her father was an animal handler, so there were always animals around, and she developed a fondness for them early on. She’d always had something of a penchant for working with them. Her mother kept her distance, and she was mostly raised by her older brother James, since their father was busy and out of the house most of the time. Helping found Pern was no easy task, after all.
A major devastation in her life happened around the age of 16—the first fall. Completely unprepared for it, most of her family was caught outside during it. Her father had been at his job, rounding up horses, and her older brother James was out walking with her younger sister, Mary. Only she, her younger brother Aiden, and her mother lived through it unscathed, having been inside at the time. Soon afterwards, her mother fell into a deep depression and drank herself to death—she hadn’t been able to handle her children in the first place, and the loss of her beloved husband was the feather that broke the camel’s back. Audrey’s aunt took over raising the family, though by that point Aubrey and Aiden were mostly self-sufficient. Aubrey was incredibly depressed, but had no choice but to pick herself up and move on—all of Pern suffered heavily, then, so it was that or nothing.
Her teenage years were fairly nondescript—there were your standard ups and downs, traumatic relationships and breakups, and what have you. She was not a trouble child, however—if anything, she was the opposite. She’d always been interested in working with animals, what with her father’s job and the constant presence of them, so she took her career in that direction. Her aunt was a geneticist, and began peripheral help in the dragon project— when the Jordan dragonhold was established and the dragons sent there, she was sent alongside them. Audrey chose to go with her, maintaining an interest in the dragon project and hoping to eventually perhaps help in healing them once she'd finished her formal veterinary training.
