Artemis - BlueMist

This character was originally created by Akira of Trelis Weyr, and was donated to me. I use her with permission. I have expanded on her somewhat, but credit still goes to her for this awesome character.

Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Artemis is a very tall sixteen turn old girl, being that she is 5'8" tall. She has long, blonde hair that has a bronze tint to it, and ends just below the base of her back. Her bangs hang freely in front of her face, but she has them tamed so that they don't get in her eyes. She will sometimes tie her hair back with a string, but whenever she lets her hair hang loose, she ties the string loosely around her neck. She also has very dark brown eyes that seem to shine whenever she's happy.

Artemis will usually wear a shirt that has her nickname sewn onto the front of it. She isn't really picky about what colors she wears, but her favorite is black. Her shirts are normally a little small for her, and will sometimes show her stomach. She normally wears pants, but will occasionally wear shorts, it all depends on how hot it is. She always wears her belt though, the belt has a chain on it for decoration, but other than that, it serves no purpose.

Artemis will always wear her work boots, but she will wear a nice pair of leather sandals to special events. She does have enough sense to wear a nice dress, but that is EXTREMELY rare, even rarer than her wearing sandals. It is a dress that her mother bought for her. It is very long, and covers her feet. It is black, with gold lace trim. It looks like it's a tight fit, but it is actually pretty loose fitting, and very comfortable.

Personality

Artemis is a very calm individual. Even when she's under a lot of stress, she is as calm and as cool as a cucumber. That being said, she does have a slight temper, though, it usually takes quite a bit to upset her. One thing that really pisses her off is when someone is picking on someone weaker than themselves. Whenever she sees this happening, she can't help but intervene, and stand up for whoever is getting picked on.

Artemis is actually very patient, she had to be after all, she was the oldest of five kids. She likes to have a good time, especially if she's with her friends or family. She is extremely loyal, much like a canine really. Once someone earns her trust, she will be their friend for life…well…at least until they betray her. Then her temper comes out and she will try to beat them to a bloody pulp. Her parents always said that she gets that trait from her father.

Artemis has a tendency to be the one people come to for advice, or just to have someone listen to their problems. She will always do her best to keep those around her happy, even if that means giving up something that she loves. She is very proud of who she is, who her family is, and who her friends are. But she isn't the type to go around bragging about it. She doesn't really like being in the spot-light, and will do just about anything to put it on someone else. Artemis is a very hard working, and extremely diligent. She will never leave a task half-finished.

Growing up around brothers has it's effects on a person, and Artemis has not been exempt from those. She's a little bit of a tomboy. She prefers her easy, comfortable clothing, and hates to dress up even when she ought to. She will, if she absolutely needs to— but only in those absolute circumstances. Some people might think that odd, for a weaver, but she just rolls with it. She likes designing and making pretty clothes, but not wearing them. She has her own fashion, which requires belts, thank you very much, and she'll stick to that.

Similarly, she very much as the tomboyish, laid-back affect going on. She's casual and comfortable with men. She's casual and comfortable with pretty much everyone, actually— there's not much of a difference in how she treats the sexes. She does do a lot of more boyish things with all the fervor one might expect out of boys: while she's not one for contact sports, she's not above playing rough or physical games, and she can keep up with her male companions in most things, including social situations.

Artemis is confident. She's comfortable in her own skin. She knows what she can do, and what she can't do. You aren't going to see her backing away from things that might offer her a challenge, but you aren't going to see her taking on things she knows she can't handle, either. She isn't prone to arrogance, so when she calmly states she can do something, she can do it.

For the most part, Artemis is willing to accept people. Incredibly open-minded, she's very come-as-you-are. she likes that people are different, she finds individual differences fascinating. So, be who you are, and she'll probably be cool with you. There are, of course, exceptions- cruel people, mean people, etc. She's not much for them.

As calm and laid back as Artemis is, there is something more to her. Some kind of tightly-coiled energy under the surface. It's not tenseness, it's not anger: it's preparation. She's calm and easygoing, but as already mentioned, she can handle herself in a crisis. She's prepared, mentally, for things to come. Her reactions will be quick, and her capability of
keeping her head in a crisis situations means she's going to be able to be rational on a dime's drop, too.

Being mean really doesn't come naturally to Artemis. She's a gentle creature. She grew up surrounded by love and family, and she wants to pass that sort of thing along. She is nurturing, and she wants the people around her to do well. That's why people come to her for advice— she's going to give you the best she can think of, becuase she very much wants to see you succeed.

Family is really important to her. That includes the family she was born into, and any family she was born into. It doesn't matter how long it's been since you have seen her, if she considers you family, she's going to give you help when you need it, no question's asked. She also is greatly comforted by her family, by that closeness. One of the things that will weigh hardest on her, should it ever happen, is a lack of frequent contact with her family. She wants to have those trivial family news, the sorts of things you hear when you're surrounded by your family constantly, and even her separation from them at the weyr will make her pine for them frequently. She'll solve this by writing to them all the time, but the contact is important. She also likes babies, and every new addition to the family will be met with great joy. She'll want to meet them immediately, and see how they're doing.

Fairly social and charming, Artemis likes meeting people. She does fairly well at it, and at cultivating friends. After all, what's life without connections?

History

Artemis' mother used to be a journeyman weaver, but she quit her craft when she married Artemis' father, and traveled with him. The men on her father's side have been traders for almost ten generations. Even though her father loves her very much, he was slightly disappointed when she was born a girl, and not a boy that would some day take over his business. Though, he was extremely proud with the way she seemed to work harder than most of the boys he had ever seen.

Artemis' mother would teach her how to sow whenever they had enough free time. That time was something she always looked forward to, even when her first sister was born. Artemis would look after her sister whenever her mother and father were working, and the two of them have had a close bond ever since. Mina would follow Artemis around where ever she went, almost like a second shadow. She didn't mind having her sister tag along though, she actually liked it.

Artemis was six years old when her brother was born, and just like with Mina, Artemis had to take care of Mistal whenever her parents had to work, and just like with her sister, she formed a close bond with her little brother, but when he turned four years old, her father started teaching him the ways of the family business, after all, he would be the one to take over some day. That meant that Artemis and Mina had more time to spend with their mother, learning how to weave.

Artemis' mother had wanted to send her to the Weaver Hall, when she was nine years old, but then her mother had the twins, Miara and Mitka. So Artemis got to stay around, and help take care of her two new sisters. This was something that she loved even more than weaving, and her mother knew it. Her father and brother on the other hand were pretty busy trading, so Artemis didn't really see much of them after the twins were born. Tiaman did have to find enough money to feed all of them after all.

Artemis and her family were actually at Ista Weyr for the gather, when she was searched. Her entire family had mixed feelings about this. Her parents were proud and happy for her, but they would miss having her around. Her sisters and brother were sad that she had to leave them, but they also told her that they wanted her to get a dragon so that she could take them on rides.
