Looks
Alegria gives the impression of being very small: she is only 5'4" tall, so she is short for a pernese, but this smallness comes more from the delicate features of her body, and her thinness: she has very little fat on her, and her muscle is the lithe sort formed by flexibility exercises. Her features are small, and her eyes long and almondshaped. Her hair, which she keeps at shoulder-length and frequently back in a ponytail, is a deep auburn shade, and her eyes are hazel brown.
Personality
There's an air of wonder to Alegria, an atmosphere of exuberant joy at being alive, despite her delicacy.
Alegria is, indeed, a very delicate looking person. Her features and frame help exacerbate this, but she moves with a natural grace, and speaks quietly when she speaks at all. Everything she does is with great deliberation: she considers the consequences of her actions as much as she can, and tries to make as little a negative impression on the world as possible.
This delicacy is slightly misgiving: her thinness and delicacy is not out of frailty at all, but careful conditioning: She's a contortionist, which betrays considerable endurance and strength. Very disciplined, she practices her contortion daily for hours, and has since she was a young child.
The sense of wonder is not misgiving: Alegria is a joyous person, and she likes being happy and experiencing joy. She marvels at everything, appreciating things that most people glance over or actively despise: she has a great fondness for insects, for instance, and can spend long periods of time marveling at blades of grass.
The appreciation extends to people as well: she's a very affectionate individual. Partially out of her upbringing, and partially out of what she naturally is, she considers her friends to be family, and is as loyal and fond of them as if they were: she's used to having a large, boisterous family around her most of the time.
There's no mistaking the strength in her, however: Alegria is a survivor. She's a very resilient creature, with a very subtle stubborn streak. If she doesn't want something to happen, it's not going to happen. If she wants something, really wants something, she'll probably get it. And shardit, she refuses to get dragged down by the world. This stubbornness doesn't rise in her very often, but when it does, she may as well be a brick wall.
In general, she is fair and friendly, and approachable.
History
Alegria was born into a family of traders, who had a long history as such, and was proud to be so. Her family were not ordinary traders: they had a long tradition of acrobatics and theatrics amongst themselves, proudly carried from generation to generation. They took notes from the harpers, expanding on classic stories and creating their own: the family was huge, and there was never any shortage of children to carry on the tradition; indeed, several of the children went off to harper crafthalls, if they felt the life on the road was not for them.
Alegria was not one of those children. She loved the traders' life: relatively carefree, and always on the move. Her role in the theatrics was contortion: she was especially flexible, and from a young age was trained to take advantage of this. At her present skill level, she can twist herself into a variety of strange shapes, with no damage to herself so long as she takes her time getting into and out of the positions.
Her family survived the disasters— barely, but they strung together, perhaps out of sheer force of will then anything else. They tried to keep up traveling and trading, but it soon became clear that it was to odangerous; there was a division in the family. Most of the survivors wanted to stay in one place, at least until things on Pern calmed down: especially with the return of thread, traveling was no longer safe, and no one remembered the precautions against thread for travelers. This divide within the family drew to a full schism, which came to a head when a large portion of them chose to stay behind in one of the holds. Only a small contingent, of 15 family members, kept on traveling.
They survived for a year with only minor issues, but their luck changed quickly as they approached the area of Lellinias. Their group was attacked by a group of holdless. Everything was destroyed, and half of their party was killed in the chaos- the remaining barely made it to the weyr, seeking refuge.
They've been there for a turn and a half. The holdless that attacked them were not the same as those who attacked them a year and a half previous, but the dislike of them still lingers: she doesn't hold much stock with people who prey on the weak.

A large, powerful creature. Extremely agile and quick. She has a very strong tail, and will be able to make the males run long and fast when she runs to mate. Her coloring is a deep reddy/brown, she is very soft to the touch, but her sheer size might scare folks away.
