Consise/Basics

Name: Aide
Nickname:

Position: Candidate
Past Ranks: Holdless, Refugee

Gender: Female
Sexuality*: Pansexual

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Fairly slight in stature, Aide is almost too thin- she's long been in the habit of not eating too much, and almost seems to distrust the weyr's offer of food until she's sated. She's about 5'3", so she's short, and her features are long, to boot— high cheekbones, long nose, long, thin lips. Her eyes, which are green, are a touch too big for her face. Her skin is pale, and her hair is a reddish-toned brown. She has a strange fondness for colorful skirts and long, heavy men's boots. It wouldn't surprise anyone who knows her if she carried a knife (and, in fact, she does when she can get away with it.)

Personality

Aide is a case of someone who is colored deeply by her experiences. Everything she is, was, and could be meshed with everything she's gone through thusfar, turning out a bitter caricature of what she might've otherwise been.

Aide is passionate, stubborn, and emotional. It's a powerful mix.

Not everything she does, she cares about. Prostitution, for instance, is really more of a side gig. But if she finds something she cares about, or something she actually wants to do well, she throws herself at it. All the dull-burning reliance that seems to fuel her life flares up and puts it's weight behind whatever it is she's set her attentions to.

That reliance also fuels the stubbornness— Aide can be as stubborn as a mule and immovable as a wall when she really digs her heels in- arguably that's led to her survival thusfar: she's just too sharding stubborn to pursue a different course. It's a very resentful stubbornness, too— if she's digging her heels in, rest assured that she's holding it against whatever's in her way, and she will hold a grudge.

The bitter mask she wears is probably a defense-mechanism to keep the world at bay; Aide is a very emotional and sensitive person. She feels everything, all of those ups and downs of the human existence conundrum as a whole, and everything that comes along with her lifestyle. Though she tries not to show it on her face, every emotion is felt to it's heights: when she's happy, she's elated. When she's sad, she's heartbroken. When she's angry, she's a burning ball of rage. Very pure and very raw: that's how this girl feels.

Aide was used to relying on herself when she would've developed trust, and betrayals in the past have only confirmed the underlying belief that other people cannot be trusted. She's naturally wary, and downright suspicious of people: it takes awhile to earn her trust. It's interesting to note that IF her trust ever succeeds in being won, she'll be as loyal to them as she had been distrustful, with the same sort of vehemence. She's also quite protective and possessive of those she holds close. She can be quite defensive, both to strangers and friends alike.

It goes with the stubbornness, but Aide doesn't give up. Ever. She's tenacious and resilient; it's almost like she clings to live and existence out of spite. She's also quite feisty; she'll think very little of challenging something twice her size, or charging into somewhere she shouldn't've been. If you didn't want her there, you should've put better locks on your doors.

A thorough pessimist, Aide has always thought it safer to look at the glass as half-empty. This isn't to say she mopes or wallows in unhappiness- she doesn't have the time for that. That said, when facing a situation that's been left up to chance, it's better to expect the worst- and it's even better to take control of the situation yourself, or avoid situations that are best left up to chance entirely.

One thing about Aide: she's proud. She's real damn proud that she's survived this far, and she's confident in herself. No matter what comes at her, she's pretty sure she can handle it. Shards, she's pretty sure she can kick it's ass.

Aide does have a set of bad habits. She really likes alcohol. A lot. A lot a lot. She also can't hold onto money whenever she gets it- she's never really been used to having any sort of regular income, and so when she has money, she spends it- partially on food, and partially on gambling.

History

Aide's unpleasantries are perhaps not unearned: despite her youth, she's been through the ringer a time or two.

She's the daughter of a prostitute. Her mum, although holdless, was relatively high-class, and was capable of doing well in terms of providing for her daughter- but was generally concerned more with her own comfort, treating her daughter as kind of an afterthought. By "do well," we mean "respective to the holdless"- they had a regular hidey-hole of sorts, which was padded with relatively comfortable furniture, and was kept warm with a fire in the winters.

Aide was frequently left to play by herself, and was pleased to do this: she didn't really like her mother. When she had friends, they were typically the boys; she never did much well with playing with other girls.

At the age of 10, she wandered away from her mother's abode— they'd been having increasingly spectacular fights, what with Aide's coming of age, and Aide was quickly developing a sense of independence. She could certainly do better for herself then her mother had. Certainly.

So she struck off on her own, and went to find her own hidey-hole. Her mother had avoided, for the most part, the bands of holdless- Aide did not try to. She managed to stay peripheral of them for a long time, but making a life for herself alone did not really work as well as she'd hoped it might; she found herself banding closer to them for the sake of survival.

Sometimes, she was one of them- sometimes, she was on her own. For awhile, she managed a sort of ghost-survival. She never stayed in once place very long, and on occasion made a handful of marks by taking up the same 'craft' her mother had. Life was rather automatic, and somewhat bitter: you see a lot of sides about people, when you're homeless, that they might otherwise not wish to show the world. The homeless, after all, aren't really part of the world.

This was basically the state she was in when the searchrider from Vanadium found her, three turns ago. It took some convincing— more in terms of trust, because Aide didn't believe that a weyr could make any promises or take in someone like her, but she eventually accepted and went to stand at the dragon's hatchings at Vanadium.

She didn't strike it off with the dragons, but she did decide she liked Vanadium. Used to keeping noctournal hours, she slept through her first hatching, and failed to Impress the second. At the same time, her interest in whers grew— they shared, after all, her noctournal tendencies. She also discovered the unpleasantness that existed between the two weyrs. The vanadians did not shun her as much as she'd've expected for formerly being holdless, but the Illyrians seemed to think her poisonous for both having been holdless and from Vanadium. Granted, she only ever met 2 illyrian riders- but 2 was enough for her to make the assumption that they're all like that.

She's incredibly offended at the merging of the weyrs, and takes most opportunities to pick at the illyrian riders. Granted, in doing so, she's only slightly more hostile to them then she is to anybody- but, that's how it goes.
