Gender: Male
Sexuality*: Pansexual

  • Note that all sexualities are fluid or basically pansexual, due to ness's own sexual mindset. All characters are at base pansexual; they could go for anyone based on personality over gender. Some of them may lean, and have a gender preference. Some may be more bisexual. Bigenders, transgenders, and other genders may not be an issue on pern, so that aspect may not be an issue. Point: Personality over sexuality, which is why they will be listed as Pansexual with a potential lean.

Looks

Hair color: Light sandy brown, greying slightly [premature]
Eye color: Grey
Build: Light

Akadii is about average height, or perhaps tall, at about 5'10". His build is long, with long features and limbs. Though he filled out in puberty, he still has the appearance of residues of growth spurts in puberty making his form just a liiiittle too long for itself. His features are nice, even, and somewhat squared in the chin. His nose is long and thin, and his lips delicate and warm. His eyes are large and even gray, and in his pale form he they would look cold, but for hte soft expressions he usually wears. His hair he keeps short, out of practical reasons; it is light sandy brown, but is going gray somewhat premature.

Personality

Likes: Kittens, puppies— all that cute shit, you know— naked men, nice people and people who go out of their way to do good for the sake of doing good.
Dislikes: Fighting, cruelty, not being able to do anything, explosions, and the smell of rotting things.
Fears: Finding a lover and loosing them, growing old alone
Goals: Make things better for humanity in general, help people who are ill.
Quirks Sardonic little bastard, self-depreciating.

Akadii is a droll healer with a cynical outlook on life.

He's a very smart man, and has always been more on the scientific edge of healing— if one assumes that there are some healers which spend most of their time practicing, and other healers which spend most of the time looking for ways to make treatments better and more effective, he does the latter. He still practices, of course- you have to- but he also keeps his eye out for new technologies, and new plants and chemicals to use. His specialty within healing is more pharmaceutical: he's concerned with plants and their uses, and finding ways to extract the useful chemicals in plants out so that they're more useful. It's part of why he agreed to travel with Jackyll in the first place: to get him out where he can find more potentially useful plants.

Akadii has a lot going on in his head, and thus he's usually rather quiet: plenty occupied with the goings on of his own mind to need to be constantly prattling on with conversation. He's very analytical: anything that happens, he's running through an internal filter to make sense of it all. Especially regarding local plants and their uses, he's always "on": observing, paying attention, trying to figure out how he can better use stuff.

Akadii is a cautious man. He doesn't like taking risks when he doesn't need to, and he needs to be talked into it more often then not. Jackyll, with her charisma, is quite skilled at this, but nevertheless he'll act as a temper in many groups. He's also a quick thinker, so he can find not-as-risky alternatives, and he has the patience to go through with these even if they aren't as fast of an option.

Akadii is quick-witted, both in conversation and in general. He's a great fan of irony and sarcasm, and uses them to good effect- but he's usually amusing about it, rather then offensive. He seems in general to be cynical, but kind of helplessly amused, by the state of the world.

Akadii doesn't seem to think much of himself. Whether this is mostly in jest or if he really does have low self esteem is unknown— certainly it doesn't get in the way of most of what he wants to do. He's rather aloof, and keeps to himself more often then not— but he won't turn company away if it approaches him, he just won't approach it himself. He's self-depreciating, and he tends to downplay his expertise. The fact is that he was near the top of his class throughout his time in healer hall, and he's really damn good at his job— you will just never, ever hear him say so. He doesn't like talking about himself much, and tends to give short, roundabout answers when asked— though if he's pushed, he'll usually let loose some information about him. He just doesn't find it particularly interesting. He doesn't really like attention, or certainly not scrutiny.

He's friendly enough, and he does like people. He's somewhat social, but it manifests more in a desire for company then the momentum to go out and seek people. He's amusing and friendly, especially when approached. He's decent conversation, and he's certainly loyal and affectionate, if anyone bothers taking the time to get in his good books. Truthfully, he desires companionship. He wants true, emotional relationships, platonic or otherwise— someone he can trust to confide in, and someone to count on.

Akadii is a romantic. He would be closeted, only it's more a case of no one having asked then him deliberately hiding that information. He wants a big, deep, passionate loving relationship— he frequently mentions how he wishes a nice man would sweep him off his feet— but so far he's had no luck. He has had many lovers, and probably will continue that trend, but lovers don't make great confidants. He keeps his friends close, and would probably keep his family/lovers closer. He doesn't have much desire for a family, but if he ever did have children, he would probably treat them wonderfully and dote on them— in addition to being terrified all the time of not doing enough/being a bad parent.

Akadii is an idealistic man. Certainly he's more idealistic then Jackyll, though in the same direction: he's a humanitarian who desperately believes in doing good for the world. Indeed, he is/was part of a group of healers in his class who were dedicated to doing as much good for the world as they possibly could, almost to the point of excluding all else but their active practice. Akadii isn't quite that dedicated, though it's not for any laziness. He has been tempered by the world as Jackyll has, though perhaps not as much. He's more pragmatic then his colleagues. He understands the nature of cruelty and the world, and he udnerstands that it's inevitable. He's much more cynical.

NEvertheless, he hasn't entirely given up. He seeks social change, and he's an ethical creature who understands the implications of his actions and goes out of his way to make sure things go as well as possible for those involved. He simply uses a more balanced approach to social change- nudges things into place rather then trying to push them there against all odds and resistance. He's mostly amused by the world, and occasionally disgusted.

Like Jackyll, Akadii is independent, though unlike Jackyll, it's bit a life's mission or a vocation. He's simply good at functioning on his own, and he's self-reliant. He's incredibly intelligent and he learns well and quickly.

Akadii does good for humanity when he can, and does good for the people he knows and lives around the rest of the time. He's selfless and he serves others in the name of the greater good, but he won't sacrifice himself to such ethereal causes without concrete proof that it would actually do something. He just does what he can, being an ordinary guy and a healer.

History

Akadii, initially, had nothing unusual in his history.

He was born into a family of holders. There were some ties to crafts— an uncle who was a tanner, a grandfather who'd been a healer— but for the most part, they were holdfolk, and they would stay holdfolk. His parents were the product of an arranged marriage, and they did not get along. Akadii's childhood was spent watching his mother and father leap to each other's throats at the smallest provocation, sometimes unintentional. This was disastrous to an already withdrawn boy; he learned to be quiet and keep to himself.

Though he never confronted his parents, by the age of 8 he had resolutely decided he did not want that life to himself. Being tied to someone out of stagnation, married without a choice— no, thank you, that was not him. He wanted to do good for people, and he would not do it at the hold.

So, he spoke to his harper masters- those who taught all the children at the weyr. They told him to look into crafts, and it was helping in the infirmary that he found his calling. IT felt good, to help people— even in small ways, like weaving and rolling and bandages, or mixing very simple poultices. He wanted to help people, he decided, so he put his mind to it and joined the healers at the age of 10.

He progressed through this normally. He became a master. He never developed the sort of relationship that he wanted, though he frequently tried to- he had many lovers, but found none of them to be good confidants.

Things were lulling into a pleasant stagnation of being a healer— a job which had enough day-to-day excitement to keep him occupied— right up until the point where thread made it's call. Between the disasters and thread, everything changed. Suddenly, a huge portion of pern's population was dead, and another portion grievously wounded. He was called to the weyr to attend the dragonriders: the horrors he saw were almost enough to turn him from healing forever.

But to stop healing would mean to betray people forever. He couldn't turn his back on the people of pern. He kept healing, ignoring his own stress.

Around that time, he was approached with someone with an offer— she was about to go traveling, herself and a wherhandler. She needed a healer to come along, to fix any trouble a wherhandler and a mercernarial ex-guard could get into. He agreed.

Everything was going relatively great (As great as it could when you wandered the wilderness like that) until one threadfall, where the wher- in investigating further in the cave they had holed up- got bitten by a poisonous tunnelsnake. Akadii's expertise mostly lay in medical plants and other chemical applications with healing, and thus he was the perfect person to have on hand- but there was only so much even he could do. He managed to do enough to keep the wher alive for the rest of the day— they waited out the threadfall, and returned to the weyr, making the voyage in three times the time as usual— thank Faranth they had been nearby.

They went back to the weyr and stayed there for awhile, during which Adi'kia had the luck to witness a hatching. His luck went more then that: adragon chose him, a very odd dragon: at first, people had thought it a wher, despite having hatched from a dragon's egg Desuth is not like other dragons, but he is Adi'kia's dragon, and Adi hasnt thought twice about him in their entire time together— nor does he intend to.

The intervening turns have ended up with Adi'kia making himself useful as one of the many healers at the weyr, tkaing care of people post threadfall. He's jaded from seeing all those wounds, and the effects of radiation poisoning. Now that an even new danger has appeared, he is… terrified of the future, but determined to do what he can to help the people of pern.
